I'm getting all 4 teeth taken out. So far as I can tell warm liquids (ie soup and coffee / tea) are bad? Better to stick to cold liquids and foods?

Is this true? ice cream is better than soup?

tell me about the best thing and worst thing you did after you got yours out...

warm liquids are okay but not hot. I ate lots of puddings. Lukewarm soup. Soft fruits like canned peaches chopped up. Milkshakes but no straw a straw will pull out the clots and stitches. bad news Eat the milkshakes with a spoon or sip them. Stay on top of the pain by taking the pain meds as soon as you get home and take them on a regular schedule the first couple of days. Ice the first 24 hours then heat speeds the healing. You are a brave soul as I only had one side at a time done. A dull ache is expected but if the pain gets sharp or doesnt decrease over time you may have a dry socket this is an exposed nerve usually on the bottom and if the clot is removed. Call the dentist immediately. I had one come off the golf course the day before Thanksgiving for me. He packed a plastic ribbon covered with ground cloves in the hole and the pain instantly went away. I know sounds like a cure from the middle ages but it worked and I was so gratefull that the pain was gone. I had mine done on a Thursday and recovered all weekend was back to work on Monday. I still had food get caught in the lower holes but I got a squirt bottle with a pointed lid and squirted the food out of the holes till they healed over. On the hole it wasn't a bad experience. Good luck!!!

When you get teeth extracted, (wisdom teeth or any others) you can eat most foods that you feel like eating. Do not eat anything that is too hot or too cold. Avoid eating anything that is crumbly ie. popcorn, rice, chips etc, as the small pieces can get lodged in the extraction site. Also do not use a straw while drinking, because it can disturb the clot that will form. This is needed to heal.

I agree with most of what everyone is saying but, not with the milk products....the milk products can cause bacteria when it is sitting around the area that has just been operated on, especially since you cant brush back there for the first 1 to 2 days.I just got mine taken out 2 weeks ago...what i ate was soups (don't sip, let it fall in your mouth with a spoon) sorbet slightly melted and baby food :) i know i know...it might be weird but trust me you don't want food stuck back there because you cant chew it.and DONT use a straw..oh no...but sipping is just as bad, i did, i sipped my soup and i had a dry-socket which hurts oh-so bad! After 2days i ate those baby food wieners (in the little cans) like little sausages...i peeled off the top part and ate the soft center (they have chicken, turkey, and other meats to)
Good luck! i had all 4 taken out to, and it hurt ( just like any surgery would ) but its not unbearable don't worry. Oh and the best way to keep the ice packs on your face is to take a string or rope of some sort and rest the ice packs on your checks and wrap the rope around the back of your head and in the front tie it around you lip area..and there you go...LOOK mom no hands!

Soup is fine, just be sure it is warm...but not scalding hot . The reason is you don't want to disturb the clots and cause it to start bleeding. Try eating softer, easier to swallow foods, too like scrambled eggs. If you're concerned about your intake you can always drink an ensure or a liquid milkshake for dieters that have vitamins...but I wouldn't worry too much as it is only for a day or so. You'll do well.

I just had mine out a couple weeks ago and i was sure i wouldn't be able to eat anything-but i was wrong. i Actually ate pretty good..I bought lots of soups; spagetti o's, chicken noodle, tomatoe...i had pudding, yogurt, soft icecream, drinkable yogurt was easy and great, i bought those dannon immunity drinks also, o yeh, and anything too hard to eat i put in a blender!...anything that u can just put in ur mouth and let sort of slide down. At first u will have everything everywhere, but as u become un-numb u can feel things more and get better at it. I really was afraid of losing weight during the weekend i had them out because i was told i would, but i didn't! So pretty much anything that u dont really have to chew-have fun and enjoy the vicadin! :P

When you come home make some tea and put the teabags on the gums it helps with bleeding, then you can drink anything cold for a few hours and eat icecream, in the evening I had mushroom soup and started to drink luke warm coffee. In the meantime I exchanged the teabags on my gums.

there is nothing better than good old fashion chicken noodle soup. It will be easy to consume and believe it or not - it has the effect being soothing.

The worse thing is nuts - you are nuts to eat anything hard.

You pretty much got it. Jello, pudding, etc. will work as well. Your dentist should advise you of what to eat too.
