Find an activity that you enjoy! Running, Walking, Swimming, and biking are great choices. Also you have the chance to be involved in active sports at this age like basketball, track, and others. Cardiovascular exercises burn the most amount of calories so they are the way to go.

You don't need to diet because you are young and growing, but you should minimize your intake of empty calories(little or no nutritional value) like soda, candy, desserts, and fast food. Just eat sensibly with balance, variety, and moderation and when you are full stop eating. Good luck to you!

soccer and swimming are GREAT ways to get the weight down. They are great confidence boosters and build team mentality and networking with new friends.

You should know that if your 13 year old is a girl she may be more prone to injury from soccer. The running has an effect on shins, knees, and ankles.

Swimming is also great but be sure he / she wears ear plugs to avoid developing ear infections from the pressure gradient.

Both of these are my favorite sports AND i have all the problems ijust warned you about as well... so be care...

Its hard work, but the boys will seriously respect you, and you will not just lose weight, but you will gain a great deal of health. I wouldnt suggest running a marathon, but running a 10k, and all the preparation that get you up to it, is really good for loosing fat, keeping muscle, building discipline, and gaining both self confidence, and respect from others.

in my opinion dancing is THE BEST way to stay fit. so join a class and the weight will come right off. unlike some sports, dancing is great for guys and girls.

dance dance revolution is also a good idea if you like video games as well.

Are you sure you need to lose weight? If you have to then try bikeriding or swimming. Just remember if you are a girl you needto have a good diet which includes lots of fruit vegetables and meat especially if you are menstruating.

Try martial arts or anything else that can get her involved with others. Just don't push the weight issue. 13 is a very tender age when it comes to body issues.
