IR- infra red communications. Very similar to, but upgraded version of your remote to TV link. The sender and receiver use ir light bursts to transfer data. Old original wireless system that was found on laptops, some pda's/cellphones and extensively in the package tracking/warehousing industry's handheld systems. Slower that radio/wifi/bluetooth, but secure since you need to be inline and close to read the data being sent.
