Since I don't know your medical make-up, such as what you're allergic to, I can't recommend anything to take for pain. What I can do is to pray the full pain doesn't come before the surgery, because when I had my gall bladder removed, I swore I was having a heart attack, and when the ambulance people came, the paramedic told me I was just having gas from popcorn and beer I had had the night before and I should take Maalox or Milanta and I'd be okay. I was so relieved to hear that that I went to the store and got some and the pain went away, temporarily. Then it came back, and seemed to stay, and I just thought it was because I wasn't taking the meds right since I had never had to take them before, so I kept taking them on schedule, for three (3) days, and swore that dying couldn't be as bad as this, and prayed as I lay on the bathroom floor that if it was God's will, that He not hesitate to take me. Well, He didn't, so I kept suffering till I went to one of these 24-hour emergency clinics and they did a urinalysis and the doctor said my sample looked so bad he couldn't help but recommend I go to the hospital and have it removed. Being the chicken that I am, I said if he sent his results and recommendations to my regular doctor about 25 miles away, I would go see him and if he recommended same, I'd go. When I got to my doctor that afternoon, he looked at my results and said, "What are you doing here?" I told him I had an appointment with him. He said, "You need to be in the hospital and have that gall bladder out." So I went but had to have an IV for 24 hours so they could cool down my very inflammed gall bladder so they could remove it with just a few puncture instead of an incision across my chest and stomach which would leave a very ugly scar across my torso. The next day they removed it with just the three "punctures" and sucking it out instead of the major incision. So, I still look "pretty", and I feel a whole lot better. That was about 8 or 9 years ago. I can only pray you get the surgery done before they have to put a major incision across the front of your torso to remove it, and you don't have to suffer the excruciating pain I had to, only because a paramedic didn't listen clearly when I tried to explain I had only about 3/4 of a beer and a bowl of popcorn. I said the word "beer", and he was just sure I musta had a six-pack or more and assumed he had the answer. God help him if he has to suffer how I did, and I pray you don't have to either. God Bless you.

Tylenol is good because it won't cause stomach upset, and it won't thin your blood, which makes surgery riskier. However, given the very painful nature of gallstone pain, I'm wondering if that will be sufficient.
It seems you are under a doctor's care, so if the Tylenol doesn't cut it, don't be afraid to ask for Tylenol 3.

I would say yes but for your best advice ask your Dr. But Tylenol is what I get in the hospital and that is the only thing my Dr. will let me take

What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. An overdose of acetaminophen can be fatal.
The first signs of an acetaminophen overdose include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, sweating, and confusion or weakness. Later symptoms may include pain in your upper stomach, dark urine, and yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes.

Over the counter stuff may work but I don't know for sure. I do know that you should eat boiled foods and cut out the spicy stuff.....yeah!, I know boiled food is terrible but you will have little or no pain if you do.
