burns very badly, I am coughing and hacking up mucous, and I am having trouble breathing through my mouth as well as talking... It hurts way worse then a sore throat, any ideas as to what this is, or how I can alleviate the pain?

It's possible that you have strep throat. Put a teaspoon of salt in the hottest water you can stand and gargle the whole cup, one mouthful at a time. Do this three times a day. Take Ibuprophen 400 mg twice a day, to reduce inflammation. Drink hot tea, and lots of water. Go to your doctor and have him take a throat culture, so that he can prescribe the right antibiotic. You could have bronchitis too, which is an infection in your lungs. So, get medical help as soon as possible, so that you can get better sooner. If left untreated, bronchitis can become pnuemonia, and that's a little harder to fight. It's also possible that you have more wrong with you than even you know. I'm just going by what you're saying, and don't know any of your other symptoms. I've had strep and bronchitis several times, so I know firsthand how to fight these things. You might have more than that. So, using the saltwater won't hurt, even if you don't have any of those problems, and will feel better on your throat. But, GO TO THE DOCTOR as soon as you can!! <*)))><

it souns like you could have strep throat, or a bacterial infection. the best this is to gargle with warm salt water or listerene and drink alot of fluids even though it might hurt to swallow. vicks or ricola help only when your throat is irritated, when when it's infected it won't do a thing.
if you dont' feel like it's getting better. go to the clinic and they can give you some antibiotics if its bacterial. if it's viral, then there's nothing you can do but gargle alot.

I feel for you. Everone and their mom seems to have this awful thing. I'm not sure if its mono or strep or even bronchitis. As far as alleviating the pain I suggest otter pops, slurpees, ice in general and Tylenol if you are running a fever. Get your butt to the doctor as soon as you can so they can give you an antibiotic.
Feel better!!!

maybe strep throat if the pain is extremely painful.

Warm salt water gargles will help symptoms and viruses cannot survive in a salty environment. But it appears you have a nasty infection.

Use some cough and cold medicine or decongestion medicine (all over the counter) and then go see a doctor.

If it is strep throat, which it sounds like, it is not a virus. It is a bacteria, and the doc can give you antibiotics.

try gargling some warm salt water, but it might be something like strep, so you might need to see a Doctor if it doesn't get better
