If there were a God, that would not keep humans from being monsters, cause most of the monsters actually thought there was a God and didn't care.
If there were a God how would that improve anything? If the God that Christians believe in were real, everybody except them would go to hell.

What will keep us all from being monsters? The fact that humans haved evolved with consciences, feelings of guilt, and the ability to feel empathy.
I don't understand people who think that everybody only acts a certain way because they are expecting some kind of eternal reward, or are fearing eternal punishment. I am kind and helpful to others because I enjoy it, and it makes my life feel more fulfilling.
Humans are basically good; they aren't the power-hungry, greedy monsters that too many people make them out to be.

If you need the threat of hell or the reward of heaven to keep you from being a monster, then that doesn't say a whole lotta good about you.
In fact, you keep believing that stuff if it keeps the rest of us, who do the right thing simply 'cause it's the right thing, safe from people like you.

It will take a realization of the worth of each human's life. I don't see why having a god or an afterlife have anything to do with that.
Clearly, a belief in god isn't keeping anyone from being monsters anyways.

Why follow a system of ethics? Because it makes society work better, and you like living in a society that works. Where to obtain such a system? Evolution, which applies to societies as well as to species: a society which follows sound ethical rules will survive preferably to one that does not. (The fall of Soviet communism is a classic example.) Hence, the ethical standard of action is: will the proposed action benefit society, act to its detriment, or have negligible effect? Clearly, it is unnecessary to believe in god, heaven, or hell to do any of this.

Well, they are still dead.
Our intelligence is what stops us from being monsters. IF god did exist, it wouldn't stop people in this life, as your examples show. Unfortunately, your god has never chosen to allow the cameras in, so we cannot see these people in eternal torment, can we?

Heaven and Hell are very real! And God says that vengeance is His. He will repay.

well, hitler didn't really go out on top, but i dunno. they are remembered as some of the most prolific killers in history, so they didn't recieve any props from humanity. but i think people should live their lives as they see fit. i'm unsure. but morals are good.
