Wow.
I wish that the "rapture crowd" had never come up with that idea.
I wish the Jehovah's Witnesses had never played fast and loose with the Scriptures and made Jesus out to be a "creature" (there's nothing new about this - Arius was condemned as a heretic in 325 A.D. for teaching the same thing.)
I really wish that Protestants in general, and modern American Protestants of the "Evangelical" stripe did not "throw the baby out with the bathwater" and discount the first 1500 years of Holy Tradition and try to adopt a belief in "sola scriptura" (Scripture Alone).
There is so much more to our wonderful Faith than could EVER be contained in a mere 66 random books.
As for my own faith....I wish that we had more people who really read the Fathers, the Patristic era of our growth. It's bedrock, fascinating stuff!!

People need to differentiate between Biblical Christianity and Christian Denominations. Since the time of Jesus, people have been making stuff up and adding to what was a simple faith. This has led to much that Christ never intended. It has also led to much harm. Violence has been justified by manipulating scripture, or by ignoring it altogether.
The true Christian faith is better typified by the original Franciscans, the original Methodists, the Anabaptists, Bruderhof and other such groups (amongst which I count my own church The Jesus Army).
True Christian fundamentalism is not about attacking people that believe differently or acting in an antagonistic way. True Christian fundamentalism can be summarised (albeit in a simplistic way) as "Love All, Forgive All, Show Mercy, Judge No-One."

Watch out for those "universal beliefs", the majority is rarely right. Remember, the religious leader in Jesus' day were the ones who crucified Him.
As for misconceptions, great question. If you study church history you will see that the "established church" introduced many false doctrines during the dark ages that are still prevalent in most denominations today.
The only safe thing is to study scripture for yourself. Don't believe anything you here unless it can be backed up by the Bible. Tradition is fine unless it contradicts the Word of God.
May God bless you in your search to know Him better, and by the way, your relationship with Christ is more important than anything else.

Christianity and Witchcraft are compatible. The various translations where "witchcraft" appear have various different meanings in the original Greek and Hebrew. Generally it refers to summoning of the dead, using magick to dominate and control another person, or using drugs to control and enchant a person.
So I guess moving from specific to general...I'd like people to look at the original language before deciding what the Bible is speaking about.

The biggest misconception about Christianity regards who Immanuel was. Jesus was indeed Immanuel, but Immanuel wasn't the Messiah, as so many believe. He was the one who would start a religion based on misconceptions, which would lead to the final war.
Sincerely,
Chris

Not all Christians are Fundamentalists. The Fundamentalists, in fact, are a minority when compared to the sheer number of mainline Protestants, Roman Catholics, Orthodox and other Christian groups. Additionally, not all Christians are homophobic, woman-hating bigots.

The one is see most often here is that God is more judgmental than anything else - when God is love, the source of love, and perfect love.
He is holy and pure and cannot look upon sin - therefore he has to be separate from it, and for those who sin (all of us) we are separted from him ( which is not his will).
His love is so great that he sent the one he loves so much to die taking our sin and our death so that we have eternal life in peace and glory with him.. Unbelievable - so great a love why would anyone refuse it or think of God any other way?
All his teaching and ways are love, kindness, forgiveness, hope and grace.

That Christians love war.(we don't )That Christians hate homosexuals.(we don't)That we are interested in what other people have to say.(we do care) That we absolutely understand everything in the bible.(at least I don't)That we all follow "religion".
Mostly, I would think, is that we know we have shortcomings. That we know we fall short and let people down when they see us, but that we ask forgiveness, and get up dust ourselves off, and try again.
be blessed, vicki

You are one of my absolute favorites here Pangel :-) The only thing I would like to say to non-believers is that we Christians are a work in progress and will never be perfect but we are forgiven and it is a free gift for everyone. Peace :-)
