I have heard some people say that it is and some say that it isnt. Why do you think that it should/should not be the official language.

Are you asking is English the official Language in the U.S.? If so, the answer is "no". The United States has no official national language. Each state in the U.S. is allowed to choose it's own official language(s).

Are you asking what do we think about the proposal that English be made the official U.S. language? I agree with it from a purely economic standpoint. If we don't appoint an official language, it opens the door for everyone to start demanding official written material in their own language. I say take a stand now.

Although the United States currently has no official language, English has long been the de facto national language. English is spoken by about 82% of the population as a native language and nearly everyone in the United States uses it as a daily language. On May 18, 2006 the Senate voted on an amendment to an immigration reform bill that would declare English the national language of the United States.[1] The immigration reform bill itself, S. 2611, was passed in the Senate on May 25, 2006, and now has to go back to the House of Representatives in conference to make sure amendments are agreed upon.

English is only the de facto official language. It is what most people speak and what is expected to be used, but we have no actual official language. At the level of the states it's different, many have passed laws declaring English as the official language of that state.

English could only be the U.S. official language if Americans were able to speak and use it properly.
But if you look at the perverted and childish way they communicate with one another (including this very website), you doubt if it is even a language any more.

O what a falling off there was (to quote Hamlet!)
