How do i strengthen a relationship when they don't act like they care?

My mom died of breast cancer back in 2000 0r 2001.My maternal family does nothing 4 me or my sister.They don't call or send us anything 4 our birthdays. This was like the summer after my mom died.We were staying with her. I didn't want 2 wear an undershirt.She told me your mother would want u 2.I knew u can't say what the dead want.I know my dead mother would not be pleased.Any suggestions are great .I would like 2 have a better relationship with my maternal family?

Sometimes grownups don't know how to deal with stuff too, okay? Grownups don't have all the answers, they just look like they do lol. Since they don't know what to say to you, it is easier for them to just ignore it.

And hon, it is okay to say what the dead would want, if she knew your mother well, she'd know her likes and dislikes. It's one way to keep your mom's memory alive.

Tell your family the same thing you've said here. Write them a letter if you need to, so you can have time to pick and choose your words. I bet if you let them know how much you need them, they'll come running with open arms :)

I would just keep the lines of communication open whatever way I could by calling, writing or e-mailing whatever works for you. It is possible that your mom's family has problems you don't know about and they can't offer you the relationship you desire, but maybe someday they will be able to. Also, I would build relationships with other people. It is important to have positive older role models no matter what age you are, sometimes they aren't family members and that is okay.
