I've had that. It's probably the sensation of the blood getting back into hands after it's been hiding in a warmer part of your body. When your hands are cold your blood vessels shrink a little which reduces blood flow to them. This is a survival mechanism because your body wants to keep warmth in your vital organs when it's threatened by low temperatures.

This happens to everyone i think, they become itchy as they start to warm up for some reason, it happens to me when I'm out in the cold and as i come indoors and my hands are warming up they start to itch. Wear gloves and keep your hand well moisturised as the cold weather can really dry your skin and especially if you wash you hands frequently they can start to crack.

Eczema or dermatitis - hydrocorisone cream should clear it up, but don't use it for too long, as it thins the skin. Make sure that you rinse your hands thoroughly after using any detergents or chemicals and dry your hands properly - get me ... I sound like your mum.

could be getting a slight case of hypothermia when your hands are exposed too long to the cold weather. they sell these things called hot hands at walgreens/cvs you put them inside your gloves and it keeps your hands from getting like that.

Sounds like mine are right now, I have eczema so thats possibly what you have too. Check it out with your doctor. Be careful of using any hand creams, especially scented ones as they can make it much worse...;
