Because God has promised us eternal life in Heaven with Him. He tells us that nothing can seperate us from Him. That's something to rejoice about.

Actually, you've pointed out something that is wrong with the Christian church. I am a Christian, and I do not get cheerful about dying. First off, I don't believe in the idea of the rapture at all. It's more mythology than anything else. Secondly, in the book of John, we are given the famous John 3:16 verse that we are give eternal life when we believe in Christ.
Here is the catch. That eternal life is happening now. Christ told us to not worry about when the end of the world will happen. It's not an hour that we are going to know. I do not have to wait to die to have the benefits of being a christian. I have them right now. I have eternal life now.
The idea of being cheerful about dying is a misonconception about what eternal life really means. I say, "Do not be so heavenly bound that you are no earthly good" We cannot be sitting around waiting for the end of the world or waiting to die and forgetting our purpose here. We have to live in the now.
Amanda
Hope this helps!

Christians enjoy life day to day here now, to the best of our abilities. But our hope is that there is something even better after this life. So many struggle, or are in pain now. We look hopefully towards the end of this unjust/unfair world to be received into a perfect existence with our Creator.
That's the only reason we can look with promise and hope for the rapture of the church, and the end of this place.

Let me tell you what the Bible says: " The soul that sinneth, it shall die." (Ezekiel 18:20) Now, in the old times, when someone sinned on purpose (sex outside of marriage, murdered etc.) the penalty was most often death. We have to remember that that was a different time when they were not as confused and deluded with sin as today. In our days, we live after Christ. This means his sacrifice will pay for our sins if we truly ask for forgiveness AND REPENT. Repent does not mean I go have secret sex today, say," I'm sorry Jesus". And then plan for a hookup tomorrow and the day after. That is being presumptuous sin and Paul speaks against it: "Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid!" Romans 6:1 [Emphasis Added] Let me tell you: if someone claims to be a Christian and does all the sin they want and simply ask God for forgiveness, they will not be forgiven if they have made a habit of abusing and molesting God's grace. If they have any doubts to this, they can read James 4:17 which tells us that he who knows to do good and does it not, to him it is sin. Those who live in continual sin with the intention of going back to Jesus every so often to cleanse their guilty, seared consciences will find themselves left behind when Jesus comes to take His children home. Do no be deceived by Christialikes- they look like Christians, talk like Christians, maybe even pray like Christians but when you look at their actions and personalities, there is no difference between an unbeliever and them. God will take care of them in His time, you just get to know God and be hungry to do so. These earthquakes and hurricanes aren't happening for nothing.

1) There is going to be no Rapture. That's unbiblical, and was not believed by anybody in Christendom for over 1800 years. It's a feely-good, mealy-mouthed bit of fluff that has no business in the Faith Once Delivered.
2) There will indeed be a time of Tribulation....a time no Christian looks forward to.
I don't know about you....but I'd start talking to some more traditional, orthodox Christians before I go making blanket statements about "what Christians believe".

When the Rapture comes, truebelievers in God won't have to worry about what will happen at the end of the world because they'll be in heaven. Also since satan will be defeated and God will reign victorious over evil. That's why they look towards the end of the world with cheerful hearts.

This is peculiar to certain sects of Christianity and is not normal. Though, it is true, that we look forward to the second coming of Jesus, and this with joy, that it may be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Death, to a real Christian, is not a loss but a gain of Heaven.

I'm a Christian and I am not totally looking forward to it. I personally want to live my life, and have children and watch them live theirs. I do believe that heaven will be better than earth and I long to see Jesus, but I don't necessarily wish for the rapture. Maybe this is wrong for me to believe, but I am too young to want my life to be over.

Christianity was originally a religion of 'women and slaves' -- it offered hope for those who had no power or influence in their world by promising them that all of their suffering would be well rewarded later.
Roman emperors realised that this was a stunningly brilliant way of keeping people reasonably content within their exploitation and made Christianity the state religion. It's a great outlet for pent-up frustrations that would otherwise lead to revolution.

Religion, while it is in a story book is still in some ways benign, when man sees the reality of what religion can do the perspective changes and fanaticism is born.
Ask the mother of a dead suicide bomber and her faith will be strong because if she has no faith at that point then what was it for, all hope will be lost.
The same phenomenon will occur when an Armageddon like circumstance happens, your Christian neighbor will slay you for your food because your a non believer and it is Gods will.

The Christian knows in his heart how great it will be to be with God in heaven. All these sufferings will be left behind for an eternal glory - if you believe it you are excited about it, you should be.
We have to live our lives too.... but we have the hope of when God returns - it is not morbid it is the attaining of eternal life.
