The best way to handle someone being rude is to keep your cool and never raise your voice, if you act all calm it generally pisses them off more... and you look like the good guy.

depends on the situtation...I would say keep your cool and don't sink to their level, but don't be walked all over either. You can politely let someone know they are out of line without causing a scene. Now if you are at work and a customer is rude, suck it up. There is always someone above you who can deal with this.

when someone is very rude to me, i say, "excuse me, that was very rude. please stop." usually, when polite but stern, the person stops. if not, ask again. i cannot stress this enough POLITELY. studies have shown, that people respond to politeness better that snapping.
