I really would not use feather pillow, lots of bacteria in feathers.
You need to provide a whelping area that is at least 3 times bigger than your dog and only offer the area to her just a couple days before she whelps. Line the area with fresh dry newspaper flat and stripped paper to her knees or so, the paper being sterile and somewhat hypo-allergenic. The walls will need to be at least as tall as your dog with an entrance she will be able to get over (in and out) yet the puppies CANNOT . If you have a smaller dog a good cardboard box or two will do and is easy to dispose of if it gets soiled. You might try a closet you do not use much or use a room corner as two walls and whatever you need to much up other two . I have taped newspaper to the walls of a big closet and fixed entrance for her , worked like a charm.
I would even suggest buying a four ft. X eight ft. piece of Styrofoam insulation 1/2 inch thick or thicker (some come with foil facing, some not), cut to fit under whelping area and later as puppy pen. It makes a world of difference on a cold floor and help keeps mess to a minimum over carpet
As was mentioned a good first aid kit is handy as well, some sharp scissors and soft dry towels ( I would shy away from hairdryers unless you know what you are doing!!), keep some betadine for the umbilical. The best thing is to encourage the mom to clean and dry the babies and have a good vets phone # on hand if things seem to not happen like they should.

Yeah I guess so but...
1. I'm sure it is expensive
2. It will get blood and other stuff all over it and you will probably have to end up throwing it out since it will soak into the feathers and stuff and it will get bacteria and mold and who knows what and it wouldnt be safe for you, the dog and the puppys.
3. The mom will want more things to burrow in besides a pillow. When they are about to give birth they start nesting and they like to dig around in towels and news paper etc. to make a bed for the pups.
I hope this helps you out. Bye!!

Dogs can die during whelping but it's not the usual scenario. Newspapers in a box with some old towels would be better than a feather pillow. You'll need to clean the area after she is done whelping and supply more clean newspaper and towels.

You can use a cushion if you want to, but the cushion might get ruined when she has the pups. If you can, find a box for her to whelp in. Put in newspapes and towels or blankets. That way you can throw out the newspapers and wash the towels and/or blankets. Good luck!

No you will need towles or things that can easily be washed and dried. Anything like a pillow would be hard to wash and dry and clean and you are going to be doing alot of laundry.
Pups make a mess and when they are giving birth they make a huge mess and you need lots of old towels and things that you can wipe up the liquids and then wash out and dry.
You are going to be do much cleaning for at least 6 -8 weeks and you are going to need things easy to wash and dry.

i might say that it quite is standard for the mummy to have the liquid from the amniotic sac pop out in the time of the delivery, and a few very small quantity of blood would not be undesirable. If she lines to furnish delivery for a protracted time, do take her to the vet. In all the years I had dogs I observed quite elementary births, yet one final Border Collie misplaced her total clutter and of direction the doggies have been ineffective in the previous transport, so she had a detrimental time. I took her to the vet while the 1st puppy grew to become into born ineffective, and specific sufficient, all of them have been. I had to wade with the aid of that trauma on my own, no person abode to help, yet luckily my vet grew to become into in uncomplicated terms 440 yards from my abode. that could have been an exceptional clutter, stable bloodlines, yet i'm basically satisfied the vet grew to become into waiting to save her existence. She lies at my ft as I type this, and that i'm so satisfied I made the determination to not wait any further. Toy dogs at times have a worse time of it in transport, so watch her heavily. stable success!

UHHH... Yeah it would be pretty good....
Its ok if your willing to get the cushion all dirty and ruined, if you don't want that to happen, I think you should stick with towels and old shirts and stuff that is soft and yeah god bless and good luck with the delivery!!!
