That would be precisely why. They embrace science when it supports their claims, and rail againt it when it refutes them. For example, believing evolution to be a lie, believing that carbon dating is inaccurate, believing the world is only 6000 years old, etc.
Science has made a mockery of their religion by dismissing most of their claims as false, such as bats not being insects, dinosaurs living 65 million years ago (when they want to believe the world is only 6000 years old), the earth revolving around the sun and not the other way around.
What I will never understand is how, in the face of a surplus of evidence that shows the inaccuracies, contradictions and complete errors in their bible, they can continue to use it as a basis for anything, especially a guide to live their lives by.
Edit: Barkley, those claims you don't agree with in the OP are quite verifable. The bible, and christianity in general, DO promote war, and the bible itself promotes several indecent acts againt children. None of that is even including the amount of catholic and christian figure heads who've been found to be having indecent relationships with minors. I see no problem with bringing light to issues that are very much true, when the christian nation would like to keep them hidden.

I can't agree with your generalized premise that religious people attack science. For the most part that isn't true. It's religious leadership that's to blame.
Religions people may not like that science tends to expose some of their beliefs as falsehoods but they tend to wheedle around these tid-bits of fact by simply look up some obscure scripture to claim that it undermines the evidence enough that they can go on believing their untruths just the same... It isn't attacks made by the average Christian that is so scary.
The Christian Religious leadership, however, is a different story altogether - after all it is they who run the risk of loosing their grip on the community. It is upon this bunch that you ought to aim your statement rather than laying it on the run-of-the-mill Christian.
Like everyone else of the world, Christians have enjoyed learning the truth and living with the advancement of civilization that science has given again and again. They seem to enjoy the exposure of the mysteries of our origin just as much as your do; it's paradoxical that they can do so and remain entrenched in their beliefs but that's how it appears to be.

I was with you till those last parts. Why do you have to be so immature as to insult people who are different than you like that? And they wonder why atheists are getting so much scrutiny around here....
EDIT
Ciniful, I would have thought you, an atheist, would have known better to judge an entire religion by a few of its child-molesting/war-mongering members. Sure the bible says that, but the bible is also a thousand years old so now most of its morality areas don't apply. But I guess you can't show a little respect and flexibility, and for that I feel pity for you.

Christians, at least Christians I know, do not attack science. I personally embrace science. God gave us the understanding of science so we can be more knowledgable about ourselves and the world He created.
The only thing I know of that we disagree with is Evolution and the Big Bang theory, because none of it has been proven, despite what people believe.. it is just a theory... not fact.
Please do not use stereotypes. They are offensive and only show ignorance.

Scientists paintings to tutor their theories so that you'll understand the workings of the international extra. with out technology we may nonetheless trust the international is flat and that the universe revolves round the Earth. as for your question about attempting to disprove Christianity I really have some complications. a million, in the journey that your faith is so reliable why may you be so stressful that technology is going to "disprove" Christianity. 2, Why is it in common words Christianity that the scientists may disprove? im confident that in the journey that they got here upon conclusive evidence that it turned right into a large bang theory style of commence to our universe then it may sort of disprove each and every faith accessible that believes in any style of Genesis sort creation of the earth? i imagine its sort of narrowminded to imagine its only Christianity that believes the international became made by a God or a chain of activities created by God, or Gods. 3, the era of time they spend on clinical analyze is what has given us the finest quantity of understanding in each and every field. So whats incorrect with that? 4, in case you nonetheless opt to end clinical analyze because you've self belief that God made each and every thing and controls each and every thing then i think like it should be an quite unhappy international certainly. and in repsonse for your preliminary question: NO the clinical community doesnt do what they only do to disprove Christianity (or any faith), even with the undeniable fact that i imagine they have already particularly a lot done that already. evolution has been proved to some extent, and creationisms in common words vote of self belief is a e book that became written 2 thousand years in the past and through memories surpassed down by a millenia of generations. use severe questioning, and push the obstacles of understanding, dont relax questioning that 2,000 years in the past they hit the nail on the suitable.

the scientific community wants irrefutable proof before it accepts an idea & that's not always possible. often times, the sci comm doesn't even want an acknowledgement that a difference of opinion exists. i.e. evolutionists don't even want a disclaimer that it is merely a theory, not a fact added to science textbooks. no one benefits & knowledge is not complete if all points of view cannot be shared & debated.

Who attacked who? Do you have solid proofs?
When religion and science meet, they debate mostly in civil fashion. Nobody gets killed. It is just an exchange of facts or fictions and other findings.
Also you do not know what you are talking about of child molestations and war promotions. Are you sure you are sane?

Try not to over-generalize, (I do that often too), but when something conflicts their beliefs they will try and stop it. If I had proof Jesus wasn’t real they would kill me and destroy the proof. They want to live in delusion, in a happy sunshine world where when you die you go to heaven and everyone is happy and blah blah blah. Happy goodie goodie crap is not the way to live. They want to live in delusions but it sickens me when they want me to live there with them. Most modern day Christians throw out the parts of their religion that have been disproven by science they threw out so much they don’t know what to believe in any more, lost little sheep, but the older generation (the conservative Christians) they are the ones who believe the whole bible they would believe anything in their bible and try to stop any evidence to the contrary of their religious text having flaws.

Some Christians, mostly fundies and evangelicals, have decided that science is a competing religion with evolution as its credo. As such it must be discredited.
Those who do this simply refuse to understand that not all of see the world in the same terms that they do, that it's not all about faith and belief.
