And put bullbars on the 4x4, as well as wear a crucifix and get to know the local sheep.

Sorry if this is a little rhetorical... If people stop buying things they didn't need. IE stopped supporting consumerism. How long would it take before people were told to buy things. The nanny state is all about control and the worst part is the tendancy toward the 'average' and lowest common denominator. I think it will only stop when 90% of people weigh >250lbs and everybody has every genetic defect going..... And somebody says.... The Looneys are in charge! - between burgers of course!

beat this one...

i got a letter sent home from my son school the other day..asking my permission to give him dentention for messing about,
im not surprised the youth of today have no respect for teachers, when this country gives them so many rights,

i used to get the board duster at me,never did me no harm,

im all for kids having rights, but this country has far to many,
bring back the cane..the kids wouldnt know what hit them these days

im sure the teachers would gain some respect back at school, and not be afraid of the kids,

id hate to be a teacher in this day and age

the smoke nazis are particularly frightening: in belmont, california, some old coot has initiated a municipal dispute that has government now talking about outlawing smoking IN THE ENTIRE TOWN--not anywhere OTHER THAN, if you are lucky enough to own one, that is, YOUR OWN SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE!!! you are not supposed to have a cigarette anywhere in town, in public, including inside of your own personal car! there was a vote given to newspaper readers. only 15% of them agree that it is fair; 85% feel that it is yet another government infringement of our rights, and it is.

yet, the current law there states that if you see a person smoking a cigarette on the street, you can call the police and have them come to issue the 'EVIL criminal' a ticket! that is utter disregard and abuse of the services that police are to provide to us as taxpayers. what a waste!

now then: this poor couple that had purchased a townhouse FIVE YEARS AGO somewhere in colorado is now getting sued by another coot that had, long after them moving in, purchased another townhouse in the same general structure. he is a non smoker (who we should all realize does not ever pay, even on alcoholic beverages, anything like the amount of money charged in taxes on cartons of cigarettes--but who reaps benefits from those cigarette taxes). he requested the couple to seal up their townhouse so that he cannot smell any of their cigarette smoke. and so they did. but that isn't good enough for him. so he complained to the condo board.

when you buy anything that is controlled by a condo board or homeowners' association, you have to live under its rules. okay. well then, logic tells us that the condo board would review the rules and if nothing tells the residents that they cannot smoke in their units that it is all right for them to do so. after all, it is each buyer that owns his townhouse (in this case), not the condo board!

but the condo board issued a NEW "rule" that says that the couple are not able to smoke within their own house because it is now under the no- "nuisance" rule! and so, all because of one person (representing about 15% of a total population), these folks are supposed to go outside of their own townhouse to have their cigs! i could see it if the entire structure(s) had a rule in place when they purchased, but this is unfair. they now want to sell the townhouse but the market is bad. so what do they do, go out in colorado snowstorms? it's ridiculous!

in addition, hear this one: now the government is saying that it is "abusive" to smoke cigarettes anywhere near a minor child. and so, just as a start, watch this evolve: the government has put the child protection agencies in every state to the job of hunting down foster parents that smoke cigarettes! i guess they reason (wrongly, because there really is no concrete evidence of this) that "secondhand smoke" is going to create the bad health of these foster children and that therefore, the government will have to foot doctors' bills.

pretty soon the government will dictate that anyone that has children is committing child abuse if he/she lights up anywhere in the children's presence. that means from age 0 to 18, i guess.

i read that the entire state of hawaii is watching the new law in california play out (there is yet another town that bans smoking cigarettes there), because the government of hawaii has decided that it should be against the law to smoke cigarettes in its state.

i hope that you do start to buck 'em. notice how many answers say you should.

I don't know if you want a serious answers, but I want to give one. Dude, I know what you're saying, but if you do that you're still not making your own decisions. You're not acting like you truly want to act. You're doing the complete opposite of what they want you to do, and in doing so your actions rely on what you're being told just as much as if you did the same thing they were tell you to do. Make your own decisions completely independent of what others tell you. Completely indepedent. But hey, if you do that, you'll just be doing what I told you to.

Must be having lost sense of direction that someone has to remind which direction to take in planet of apes.
If you know the direction well no one will tell you about it.
Must be fed up of not knowing the direction that cause the misery living in planet of apes.

Get where you're coming from. I gave up smoking years ago when I had a family but I've been tempted to take it up again several time just to annoy do-gooders. Don't let 'em grind you down!

Yes, and it seems its just the people who should try to fix their own lives that seem to be advising right and left. When it comes to science research ... always take it with a grain of salt... next thing you know the opposite research will prove the one today wrong... BUT.... trying to stick it to control freaks should not outweigh you taking care of yourself.

Trust me, you are not alone! They don't have enough business or life of their own to mind, so they take over part of yours. I think they really are from another planet. May the Force be with you. Maybe we should all learn Klingon so they won't know what we are saying too.
