The old lady who lived in that shoe was a foster mom so of course she hit those kids. She made them eat out of the same bowl of cereal and made them all sleep in the same room. She was a drug addict and even though the Child Welfare people were sent to her house many times, it took the cruel death of her dog to get anyone's attention. (He had gotten into her marijuanan grow). So the police charged her with animal abuse b/c the lawyer said one meal a day is still food to eat and one blanket makes for a bed. Dog poop counts as toys and the marijuana was medicinal. As a result of the animal abuse charge, she lost her license to foster and all of the children have been placed in better foster care. Some were even adopted by the police and given proper counseling. The old lady now lives in a trailor park in a town whose population is 400, and she volunteers at the elementary school and babysits for money out of her home.

Two suggested meanings:
The first version refers to Queen Caroline (There was an old woman) wife of King George IV who had eight children.
The second version refers to King George who began the men's fashion for wearing white powdered wigs. He was consequently referred to as "the old woman". The children were the members of parliament and the bed was the Houses of Parliament - even today the term 'whip' is used in the English Parliament to describe a member of Parliament who is tasked to ensure that all members 'toe the party line'. As a point of historical interest the wigs worn by women of the period were so large and unhygienic that it became necessary to include mousetraps in their construction.

Unfortunately the shoe no longer exists. The children after suffering many years of abuse from their mother rebelled and turned to a life of crime. They are now all on the straight and narrow but the eldest who suffered the most took revenge by burning the shoe down.

Yes, it's true, but it's not what you think, so the police never charged her.
Her kids were all in their 30's and 40's by then, you see, and she was old. They just wouldn't leave. There were quite a few of them, and they all just sat around, ate junk food, watched TV, and surfed the Internet. She had a bad hip, and couldn't get out to the mailbox fast enough, so they'd get her Social Security and pension checks, and cash 'em. She'd yell and scream, and smack them, but they'd just tell her to shut up and threaten her cat.
One of the neighbors finally did report the situation after they heard her yelling one night, and the police came out, but they wound up arresting her kids for theft and elder abuse.
Last I heard, she got her hip replaced, sold her shoe, and bought a condo in Palm Desert. She does bingo nights on Saturday, and has gotten a bit too fond of green apple martinis.

No, the police never charged her with anything. The only witnesses were her children, and they weren't talking lest they get sent to bed with no supper again. She lived somewhere in Oxford, I believe, although I'm not sure if she still resides there today.

No! Of course she didn't hurt her children! The old lady is my best friend, so I know personally. Her children go to the school in my area; George Washington High, Baldi Middle School, and Anne Frank Elementary. They're friends with my children, and they're perfect dolls. The old lady is so nice, and she never hit her children!

Sorry, but that's just yet another nasty rumour.
She's being victimised by the other residents in her street who happen to live in wellies. They think her shoe is affecting home values, and are constantly making up these vicious lies.

I read somewhere that her children were all put into foster care and that she now lives and works in Los Angeles as a waitress, although she's really an actress.

Did you really ask for "sensible answers" about a woman who lives in a shoe? OK. It's a nursery rhyme you twit!
