Jakarta Indonesia?

Hi Can someone please inform me of the major religion of Jakarta Indonesia back in the 1970's and 1980's. What was the religion practiced by the majority of the polictial leaders back in the 1960's 70' and 80's....Thank you Anthony

i was 12, now im 14.

and the religion is spelled muslim. or can be called islam

For Java Island where Jakarta is located, the major religion is Moslem..It's been for a long time and never changed..
And most of political leaders in Indonesia are moslem until recently..

If you ask what the major religion of Bali, then the answer will be Hindu..

The country's original religion was a form of spirit worship that still as the basis of Indonesian culture, exists to this day - mixed in with other religions. The country was later visited by south asian traders who brought Hindu religion. (East Java has one of the most spectacular Hindu temples anywhere - the Borobudur.) Afterwards Arab traders who brought the Muslim religion to the country. The Dutch brought some forms of Christianity th the country, but they were more interested in trade, than in coverting the population (typically Dutch.)

More recently, the Indonesian muslims have been infiltared my militants who have been trying to take over the country. Fortunately,
the current government has bee able to strike a truce between the factions and involve everyone to work toward a real multi-religous democracy.

Indonesia has been world largest moeslem population. The majority religion in the government is Moeslem, up til now.

Prior to 1970, It was moeslim with strong influenced from Betawi tradition, thenafter moeslim with influenced from different ethnics such as Sundanese, Javanese and others.
