Well..........seeing as the generally accepted definition of "modern art" is art that was produced between the late nineteenth century and the 1970s...............and that Edward Hopper died in 1967.

By definition he is a modern artist.

When i think of Edward Hopper I think of Nighthawks. It is a very lonely painting I think. Somewhat minimalistic and a lot of empty space. It kind of makes me think of the modernist conflict with atheism, and the belief that you really are alone, its kind of dark and dreary and sad.
and he painted during the modern period of art.
