Well growing up in Nicaragua we worshiped the god Corholio in school. We were taught that there was but one anus in Nicaragua, belonging to The Almighty Cornhulio.

In Latin, anulus means ring; anus means old woman. The first is the root of butt.

Strangely enough, the Latin root for "anus" is anus - that's a direct translation. Anus in Latin also means "ring, circle, circular formation" That's for the Second Declension noun.

There is also a Fourth Declension noun "anus", unrelated to above, that means "old woman, hag, crone."

I think that anus must mean ring, and anulus would be a diminutive of anus - "little ring", or ringlet. Anus meaning old lady would be a different word.

Why on earth do you need to know this for algebra????
