I'm a Catholic. I've met a lot of Fundamentalists who quote anti-Catholic statements they've heard from their preachers, and never bothered questioning a word of it. I once had a job where there was lots of Catholic-bashing (I was the only Catholic employed there), and in almost every case, these people could be very easily proven wrong by being shown a few basic facts. It really helps to research a religion before openly bashing it. Some people are raised to be anti-Catholic; others have been hurt by someone in the Church, and still others just believe third-rate stories they've heard from someone else. Additionally, there are the priest scandals (despite the fact that there are many Protestant ministers who have committed similar abusive acts). There are many different reasons for anti-Catholic sentiments. I don't mind polite questions, but inflammatory statements and outright attacks are a different matter.

I think it's too much ritualistic customs and ceremonies. It just scares people off. And you have to consider that any growth at all the the Catholic church is experiencing is only by internal population growth (gee, I wonder why the birth control thing exists??) not by conversion from other faiths or denominations. I think i have only EVER met 2 people who converted TO the Catholic faith. But I know scores of people who have LEFT. Another thing: I have asked a great many Catholic friends to please explain to me the Eucharist or other Catholic rituals. Most get offended, others huff and walk away, but the ones who dare to answer cannot explain their own doctrine! They sheepishly admit they don't know really why they do the things they do, they can't find it in Scripture, they just do it because they have always done it like that. Sad commentary, but true.

Neither, and I've moved away from attacks to trying to lead people to the word, and not the tradition. Raised Catholic went to a catholic school for 7 years, and went to religious classes 4 years after that (not by my choice).

I think people attack the Catholic religion because it is silly. I mean come on. Talk about the biggest hypocrites in the religious world. Just look at history. Some pope were rich bastard who had kids and lovers. Today's Catholic would say oh no they didn't. But the fact remains. Oh yes they did. What about the Inquisition or buying. Yes buying your way to heaven. If you couldn't buy it you could always go to the Holy land and kill a few people who wear different hats than you. In today's world they are just as goofy. They worship idols of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. They interpret passages to there own benefit. They live in lavish rich Vatican and spend inordinate amounts of money to create Church's. Far from the sermon on the mount to me. In difference of catholics though I do have to say that their bible is closest to being unedited. Yet note the word "closest." Catholics do stupid stuff though like cross themselves. Why? Does it make you more holy, closer to God? If he is all knowing why mock him with silly gestures, as if he doesn't know you are devout. Just silly. In the end it is easier to justify being Baptist or something. They don't try to work evolution and superstition together. They just go straight to the superstition. That is what is so frustrating about Catholics they act like they know better but continue to front.

Both, people hear bad things about the Catholic Church and Catholics and especially Priests, about them having sex with young boys and so forth, so, people believe that Catholic teachings are wrong and they don't truly understand what Catholics believe or teach. The media and everyone give a bad projective what Catholic people are like and believe, so, most people are scared or even don't understand catholic beliefs or religion.

From what i've seen, most people don't actually hate the real Catholic Church. They hate the fallacies they've come to believe represent the Church.
If only they were open-minded enough to look for the Truth, and not fall back on the propaganda only.

I had a catholic friend in college and I was asking him questions about what he believes, not attacking him, I was just curious and he told me he didn't want to discuss it....I think because people were so hard on him for what he believed, but that wasn't my intention I was just curious....to answer your question, I think it is because they are scared of what they don't know.

Why? because it is the One Holy Catholic and Apostalic Church founded by Christ on St,Peter and satan has attacked it from day one and will continue to do so, including using other religions in the process, after all he used Luther to cause division.

People attack the catholic religion, because when they see men wearing black with collars around their neck sexually molesting and abusing young men, they see it's the last thing from Christ centered, Christian, and they begin to see there is an abomination inside this religious cult called Roman Catholicism.
People attack the catholic religion, because God does not come down out of heaven every sunday at 8am 10am and noon time (roughly) to enter little waferdisks, so that his followers can literally injest him over and over and over and over. That is just stupidity, ludicrous, and again...the teachings of a cult.
When Christ said he would be in the earth for 3 days and 3 nights as spoken in the gospels, and again, the catholic religion tries to take Good Friday and throw it onto Easter Sunday.... you just don't get 3 days and 3 nights out of that. Catholics need to get their math right.
People attack the catholic religion, because for all things, in all places, it's wrong, it amputates the soul, lies to the parishener, endangers their soul's salvation, and lies to them about God at every turn.
God became sin for us who knew NO sin. He paid our sin debt totally and fully already. That means, we are ALREADY blameless and holy before God because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross with his blood at Calvary.
The gospel of the grace of God presented by the apostle Paul revealed to him by Christ is the only way to understand. Read the book of romans, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved! He's paid our sin debt fully!

well to be honest with you i don't try to attack any one or any religion, but i feel the that catholic religion is wrong in many ways some might not no and just dis like it or not but i have stuidied it a little and i have seen it is wrong even according to the scriptures in the bible
Deuteronomy 5:6-10 (New International Version)
6 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
7 "You shall have no other gods before [a] me.
8 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 10 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Just to name one
But remeber JESUS LOVE YOU'S ALL AMEN
