Pol Roger NV is good.
A bit more upmarket tasting than most £25 champers!

Mumm's is quite decent and usually sells for about £22-£25 in the supermarkets.
Also Moet is the generic champagne which everyone buys, it's a bit bland and rather common nowadays but you can pick it up for about £23 in supermarkets and it won't disappoint. You ask for champagne and you get champagne, simple.
Lanson black label is another decent champers, that's about £25 ish too. It can be bitter sometimes and is often inconsistent in flavour, but mostly it goes down ok.
Piper Heidsieck is quite nice, but that can retail at around £27 ish so it's close to your budget.
You won't stand a chance of getting any Krug, Cristal or Dom Perignon for anything like £30, even the cheapest bottles they do.
One of those will set you back minimum £75 for a cheap Dom Perignon.

How about a nice bottle of Bollinger? This retails at under £30 a bottle - I paid £26 for the bottle I had the other night - I used to drink Moet de Chandon but have switched to Bollinger as I prefer the taste if you like a sweeter champagne then I would reccommend Mumm or is MMum - sorry for the poor spelling

A bottle of Veuve Cliquot is usually around £30 and absolutely the best in that price range.
Alternatively you could go for one of the supermarket vintage champagnes (tescos is very good) they come in a around £20-25 and I believe they more than stand up to comparison with the big brand names. They are also often on offer so may prove a real bargain!
Im planning on only drinking champagne this christmas (it goes with everything from Breakfast to supper!) and rather than go bankrupt have opted for the supermarket variety!

Cava is revolting, its a darker yellow colour than champagne which is quite handy as it tastes like piss. For £30 try a bottle of Bollinger, fabulous light taste, very pallatable, or on the other hand Tesco are selling Moet & Chandon for £16, for a couple of quid more you can have 2!.
Verve Cliquot is around £28, different taste to Bollinger and many people prefer it to Bollinger - personally i dont but thats just a personal preference.
Mumm is often overlooked and good value at around £17, if its good enough for the F1 crowd to throw around then it'll do for me as well :)
Tattinger is around £25 a bottle and again a decent drop of fizz.
If you are going for champagne try and find a cheap ice bucket, dont know why but i think it just makes it more special to have a bottle in one - maybe im just wierd :)
ps.one bottle in one then another and possibly another is even better.

Mumm is good, but have noticed over the last 5 years that Supermarket champagnes are not as good as they once were. I would rather opt for 2 or 3 bottles of dry Cava. You get the fizz and you can mix them with fruit juices to make a longer drink for your guests without feeling as though you have wasted an expensive bottle of wine.

Our wine club did a blind tasting of champagne and sparkling wines. A £150 bottle of champagne was rated very poorly. M&S cava came out top. Since then we've discovered Tesco (yeah I know - I hate them too) Finest Vintage Cava. It's very good indeed and is my drink of choice at £4.99 a bottle.

Marks & Spencers own brand premium champagne has been voted better than £100 a bottle ones this year. I think it's about £12.
Sainsbury's own came 2nd in the tastings.

I can reccomend tesco own brand champagne for its lovely invigorating taste, its cost(under £15) and its ability to disappear from my system without leaving a thick head next day.
The cheapest is nice with dinner, the next one up is the one for drinking with your lover and the ones after that (in my opinion) only get worse!

I like Tesco Demi Sec (Blue label) Champagne. It won a silver wine award in (I think 2000). Nice and sweet, goes well with lots of dishes. Its about £16.99. Also try the Premier Cru (gold label) if you prefer a brut.
