No, no.
Its because when they clean their own fur with their tongue they swallow the fur down and they can't exactly digest it now can they?

Thats how they get rid of unwanted hair.

Call the nearest zoo and ask a feline keeper if the lions, tigers, leopards they have there cough up hairballs. Can you guess what the answer will be?????

Cats naturally have a raw meat diet (zoo cats do). When you feed your cat food that is 2/3 corn the digestive juices in its stomach has to dissolve the hair ingested and the inappropriate grain that is the major component of its diet. It can't handle it. All felines of whatever species are very compulsive groomers. On a "natural" diet of meat the stomach acids take care of the hair the cat ingests from grooming and there are no "hairballs".

My cats all eat a diet of almost 100% meat. None of them ever throws up a hairball.

Cats usually spit out hairballs because they are constantly licking their fur. To help prevent hairballs, brush your cat regularly. They love this.

the cat spits it out because it accumulates in their throat from licking their fur...they do start choking on it, and have to cough it up..it sounds a lot worse than it is..in fact i recognize the sound of my cat spitting up a hairball even when i'm not in the same room!

Cats spit out hairballs because if they don't, it will block up their system. They would die.
Cats get the hair they spit up from the fur that they lick. Their tongues (as you know) are very rough and hair latches onto it very easily>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:)

Cats spit up hairballs because they can't digest the hair, and the ball has become too big to pass into the intestine.

Cats spit out hair balls because they swallow hair when they are licking themselves. There are many treats, foods and medicines that help treat hairballs.

Don't be worry. I LOVE cats and I can't see them hurt either, but in this case nothing wrong is going on. It's a natural process. The cats clean their fur. Unfortunately it stays in their stomachs, then they need to clean themselves that is why they spit it. I had 8 cats and all of them did it. So, do not worry.....

Well it has to come out somehow and if it does not pass the otherway they have to throw it up? There is stuff you can get for hairballs what will allow it to pass the other way.

Sorry this sounds a bit gross but its the truth.

WELL, GO TO A PET STORE AND GET SOME HAIRBALL MEDICINE FOR IT. THEY COUGH UP HAIRBALLS BECAUSE WHEN THEY GROOM THEMSELVES THEY PULL OUT LOOSE HAIR. TRY BRUSHING YOUR CAT MORE OFTEN WITH A CAT BRUSH

My kitties used to sound like a freight train! Cats are very clean and they groom themselves constantly, which is why they get furballs. My vet suggested I put a fingernail's worth of Vaseline on their paws. They lick the petroleum jelly off their paws which makes it easier for them to expel the excess fur by vomiting.
