I went off the pill a few months ago (trying to get pregnant). Since then, I have been breaking out, but only on one side of my chin. It has wreaked havoc on my complexion though. I have tried several over the counter washes and creams, but nothing seems to help. Does anybody have any suggestions for how to get rid of this acne caused by my hormones?? Thanks so much!!
P.S. I have a derm appointment - but it's not until the end of Febraury!!

Yes acne is caused by hormones .

And since I don't have acne a lot of times or better to say that I don't have acne , I don't know a lot of treatments , but maybe you can try '' Sudocrem '' ( Antiseptic Healing Cream for indications such as the following : Sunburn , Minor Burns , Surface Wounds , Acne and Chilblains ) .

Or

Continue Washing and Scrubbing ( and Toning , as in putting some liquids , and putting some cream as a last attempt ) to get rid of the acne .

Yes, it is usually caused by too many male hormones called androgens. When you were on the pill, it probably reduced the amount of androgens, so your acne got better. I'm having the same problem since I came off the pill, but what I find can help is using benzoyl peroxide (Benzac) treatment on the affected areas, as it clears up breakouts pretty quickly. Hopefully when you see the dermatologist, they can prescribe some antibiotics for you. Ask about Minocin, that worked really well for me in the past. HTH : )

The birth control pill was balancing your hormones. WIthout it, your body is getting confused. What you DON'T want to do...is get right back on it. Obviously, for one, you want to get pregnant...and also because this will REALLY mess up your hormones. Balanced, unbalanced, balanced. It is very hard on your body. Wait it out...and while you are buy the Neutrogena 2.5% benzoyl peroxide on the spot acne treatment. Do not use a higher concentration, it DOES NOT work better. In fact, it irritates the skin more and sometimes causes more acne to occur.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

my advice to you is to instead of treating the 'acne', eliminate the cause. you say that your 'acne' is caused by hormones. normally your hormone imbalance can be easily fixed by seeing a doctor but as you would like to become pregnant i suggest that you just wait it out, your body is confused and it will sort itself out. i would also like to say that i dont belive you have acne, sounds to me more like blemishes. acne is caused by bacteria and sebum (oil) not hormones. a word of warning, hormonal pimples are the worst to pick at because they will not go away. try gently pressing on them, pushing them back into the skin making it easier for your lymphatic system to pick up and dispose of but be gentle you do not want to irritate them as they will become bigger, redder and quite sore.
im guessing if all goes well getting pregnant, your skin will be the last of your worries. good luck!

There are many cheap and effective home remedies for acne. Tomato slices, turmeric, papaya juices and home made face packs will treat existing pimples and prevent further problems. More remedies at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html
