You need to follow your doctor's instructions. Never follow advice you get on you health on the internet. Antibiotics take time to work. You will need to take them faithfully for ten days. If they don't work after four to five days, call your doctor. He will go from there.
You don't have to have tonsils to get a sore throat.
Eat chicken soup (proven helpful) and drink hot tea with honey & lemon to make your throat feel better.
Take it easy.

Sounds like all of the symptons I had when I had mono, except my blood test was positive for it. The main sympton was the exhastion, it was the first thing I experienced and even had difficulty breathing at first. My lymph nodes were swollen the entire time. It took me about a month to get over the actual sickness, and about 3 months to get over the exhaustion and feel completely back to normal. What you've described sounds like it to me, so you might want to wait a few days and get tested again. The medicine they gave you is just an antibiotic, it cannot cure you but it does help you. You just have to make sure you finish the entire bottle. Even if the doctor finds out it is mono that you have, there isn't much else he can do. If you do have mono, good luck to you. It effects everyone differently but I was in bed for 3 weeks and lost about 20 lbs, couldn't eat or drink either and I was about 14 years old. It's very important to drink lots of fluids no matter how much it hurts because one of the biggest concerns with mono is that you can get dehydrated (my friend had to be hospitalized in her case). Have you kissed anyone lately? ;) Feel better!

I can just offer you my experience with mono. I went to the doctor with the same symtoms as you but I thought that I had strep throat. My doctor was very concerned due to the fact that all lymph nodes in my body were swollen. (In my groin area, neck area, under my armpits ect.) She suspected mono but I told her that I was certain that it was strep. She prescribed me the same antibiotic and told me that if it was mono that within 24 hours of taking the antibiotic that I would break out in a rash. Within 2 hours of taking the antibiotic I was vomiting and had a severe rash. I went back to the doctor within 24 hours and had a test done and tested positive for mono. I had a very severe case of mono to the point that the doctor became concerned that I had leukemia. I had an high white blood count and my spleen was enlarged to the point that I was not able to have anyone hug me due to fear that it would burst. I have since determined that a lot of doctors tell people that they have mono when they can't relate it to anything else. There are a lot of people in this world that will tell you that they have had mono when they have not. I had to drop out of college and it took a year to get back to "normal" My suggestion would be to call your doctor and explain that the medicine is not working. The antibiotic that you are on is the first one that many doctors prescribe. You may need a stronger medicine. The symtoms of mono are also the symtoms of other conditions. Unless you test positive for the virus then you do not have it. Good luck!

Without a thorough examination there is no way someone can even begin to guess what is wrong. Since your symptoms have increased even with the antibiotics you should head to urgent care or ER and get this checked out.
