You have hit apon one of the most important arguments as to the lack of convition in beliving the whole Heaven thing.
First think about this. What was before birth. Nothing!!! And that is what awaits you after this set of moments is over.
There is nothing special about the concept of heaven. It is give it's particular glory by human beings who present it as a country club which only members can enjoy. If this is what the all kowning powerful God has in mind for his creation - humankind - I don't want any part of it. So far I have been left out of the whole relgion thing anyway and I doubt a miraclous voice will sudenly tell me that, heaven is in fact a real place and I should join up.
The real incitive in life to be good begins with reality and living in the moment. Why is it that those who profess the most about being good, moral, etc. Are the same ones that sent those poor men and women to Iraq. Looks to me that those with out God are much kinder people. They know this is it and therefore treat people with respect. You only have one life why squander it with nonsense, like praying. Do you really get an answer back. If you do I bet its what you want to hear isn't it. Funny how people call on God when they want something isn't it. In the end it is one sided conversation.
Just believe that you will be forgivin on the other side if it makes you feel better. When you die you won't know the differance anyway.

According to the bible, all sins can be forgiven if you repent, EXCEPT denying the holy spirit. That's an unforgivable sin, and if you do that, you're bound for hell for all eternity.
So just for the record, I deny the holy spirit.
Now, back to the subject. Hell and Heaven are incentives, the fear factor that keeps christians in check. Use this example ... a 5 year old is told by his mother, "If you're good, you'll get this chocolate bar, but if you're bad, you go to the corner." Well, hell is the corner and heaven is the chocolate bar.
These are the grand incentives to keep people living in fear. The almighty creator glaring from above, watching your every step, and reading your thoughts! And if you don't live your life worshiping him and praising him, you'll be punished for all eternity. If you screw up, you're hellbound. If you're good, you'll get to sit on a cloud with angels and play incredibly monotonous music on gold harps.
If the only thing keeping christians from being evil, horrible people is religion and the afterlife incentives, can you imagine what they'd be like without it?

First of all I'd like to correct 'ciniful'. we are forgiven ON ASKING JESUS FOR FORGIVENESS. we are forgiven for all our sins that we will ever do and ever have done. if christians don't repent then it doesn't mean they go to Hell.
then to answer the question, a good way to think of it is that Heaven is eternity WITH God. Hell is eternity WITHOUT God.
and in answer to the last part: the incentive is that you love the Lord your God. If you don't love Him then you (as many humans do) have your priorities wrong. Sanctification is a process that Christians go through when they love Jesus. It's where God changes you and gradually makes you more Christ-like.
the aim of Christian life is to glorify God. if we aim at this then being good and kind to others will come to us. it's not something that as a Christian you have to do.

Let me be blunt! ! ! A lot of so called "Christians" or in slang "Bible thumpers" are NOT going to Heaven. No -- I am not judging. I am stating what God's word says. In Heaven there is no sin, no sickness, no crying, etc. Earth has lots of all these things. Running about with a Bible crumples up under your arm will not get you to Heaven. Living by EVERY Word in that Bible constantly, all day, every day is the ONLY Ticket to heaven. You start by Accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour but your continued effort is to live by the Book. If you stumble, you have an advocate with the Father (God) through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Note: that did not say the Priest/Minister.
Repentance is required and for some of us that is daily. "..You cannot say with the mouth I Love God if you have hatred in your heart for your brother..." Likewise you cannot claim to be Christian if there is no evidence of it in your lifestyle. The Bible says these things make a liar out of you and there will be no liars in Heaven either. No Gossipers, No Cheats, No adulterers, etc.
Now that eliminates a lot of our population regardless of what they claim to believe -- Right??

You can only be forgiven if u truly nver meant to commit the sin in the first place You not meant to go on sining just because you can turn round and ask for forgiveness The big man would be wired in to this chain of events only those who give their lives fully to god are getting everlasting life the rest my dear may be going to hell if not changing their views on humanity fast

The difference is earth will be blown out of the universe. Then God will create a new heaven and new earth, and the new heaven will come to earth were God will live with His people.

Earth is physical place of mixed vibrations, Heaven is spiritual of very high vibrations. Everyone goes to the waiting room(if you will) from there they atone for each earthly action and thought. You can't reach heaven with dense and heavy vibrations. To raise your vibrations you have to give and feel love. It is a step up on the ladder to heaven. People who misbehave on earth can still get to heaven, it's just more difficult given their predispostion. They have to learn more.

Well on one point you are right, there will be a LOT of people in Heaven.. Rev 7:9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
But what makes Heaven different from Earth is that there is no sin, no pain, no sadness, no death. It is eternal peace. No one starts trouble when they are at peace, its when pain, sin, sadness, death and other bad things come into our lives that there is trouble. Satan will be permenantly away from everyone so no one will be tempted again to come away from God.

not everyone is going to heaven. only those who accept what christ did for them. the others who rejected him by not choosing to accept him wil go to hell. it says so in the bible. it also says the the little children belong to Him. what makes heaven so special? the name is the best word to describe it. there is no other word, or group of words on earth that can describe it better. the closest wort to heaven is a paradise. why would we try to destroy paradise? the incentive is that we get riches in heaven for every good act that we do.

We go to the new creation. Heaven and Earth will be destroyed. We will be in the next one. Free of satan, and his minions, and all that have not been loyal to God
