Foods are what God made for the purpose of giving us our nutrition. It's the form that our bodies can use the most efficiently. The problem now though is that the dirt that the foods are grown in is so used up, it doesn't have the minerals needed to fully "fill up" the foods item with the vitamins and minerals that they had 50 or 100 years ago.

Vitamins and nutritional supplements are generally not in the PDR (Physicians Desk Reference), so doctors shy away from them. Vitamin supplements are getting more attention, since the baby boomers are reaching ages where health supplementation is becoming so important. The supplement that I take is called USANA Health Sciences and it is in the PDR. These are not sold in stores, but by individual distributors. Let me know if you're interested.

The vitamins contained in foods (mainly fruits and vegetables) are meant to work with your body. Also, there are thousands of nutrients in food that are not in supplements.

This is why it is best to eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis, and take a vitamin as a supplement, not a replacement.
