Trigonometry is useful in many engineering calculations. One example is the free body diagram. FBDs are fundamental in solving problems in mechanics.

When doing a lift of a large piece of equipment, you need to use slings. The slings are chosen based on the load of the equipment being raised. and the angle that the sling makes. The larger the angle (from vertical), the more tension that sling will see, and the stronger it will have to be. All of these tension calculations require trig.
