Please help. My 5 year old daughter is really fit and well throughout the year and never suffers from any illnesses.However, as soon as December comes, she always gets a really bad cough that lasts weeks.The doctors basically tell me it has to run it's course but she has had it nearly every Christmas of her life up to yet.I give her cough medicine to sooth it but wonder if anyone has any natural remedies to try and stop her being ill with it over the holidays.She eats well, lots of vegetables,protein,meat etc so I know that it's nothing to do with her diet.Thanks!

Honey and lemon is good. Squeeze 2 lemons into 2 pints of water and grate in some zest of the lemons. Warm in a pan or microwave, mix gently and then add 4 teaspoons of honey (Manuka if you can get it), stir well. Cool and drink when its just warm. Its very soothing and the Manuka honey has many health benefits...;

if this cough only happen's at christmas time and not at any other time of winter , then are you using any spray's like snow etc on the window's , or plant's that are only in your house at this time of year. if the problem is none of those thing's , I WOULD USE 100% PURE HONEY, it would soothe her throat, don't most children going to school grow out of all those cough's and colds by 10 year's of age. A fter that they become less frequent. Hope your little girl will have a cough free xmas.

Is she allergic to the Christmas tree? or something in your house that only comes out at the Christmas time? I would see if that cough goes away right after christmas darling, and maybe get a fake tree from now on lol..good luck

Napiers do a cherry and echinacea syrup which you can buy online. However, as with all cough medicines, there is zero evidence that it works so personally I wouldn't waste my money.
Persistent coughs such as your daughter's can be a symptom of asthma. Now I'm not suggesting she HAS asthma, but it would seem sensible to get your GP to rule it out.

Try to keep warm. Wear scarves and boots. I was sick a few days ago and it worked. When you go to sleep, put the covers over head. Or sleep in a comfortable spot. Drink a lot of warm water.

You may want to put a humidifier in her room at night while she sleeps, dryness in the air may cause couching, it does the job for my wife!
