Take some normal photos of yourself, plus a description of yourself (measurements, dress size, age, hair, eyes, etc.) and send them to a reputable modeling agency, like Ford or Elite.

Trust me, if you thought about it realistically, you wouldn't want to be a model. I've worked with tons and honestly I feel sorry for them. I'm really drunk so I'm being extra-honest.

There are models and then there are supermodels. Supermodels are a very rare breed (some would even say they don't exist anymore, that they only existed in the 80's and 90's). Most models are not supermodels. And generally it's not that great of a job. The money is good if you get the write agent, but even then you don't really make much more than if you were to work a normal day job. Sure you might get a job that pays $1,000 here or $5,000 there -- but if you only work one day out of the month, that money isn't going to pay your bills unless you really know how to manage money.

That's the best-case scenario, the reality is more like this: Everyone is looking to rip you off. There are tons of "modeling schools," "modeling agencies," etc whose sole purpose is to sucker you out of your money. I know -- one of my biggest paying jobs was for a modeling school that basically got rich off of suckering people with dreams (and I've never seen any of the models I photographed ever again -- none of them ever worked professionally with me).

It's going to cost you money to make money. Your options are this: Either pay a photographer or hope you run into a talented photographer just starting out. A professional photographer can give you the portfolio you need to get your foot in the door, but that will cost you AT LEAST $100 an hour. Expect to pay at least $1,000 for five or six good photos. And you'll need at least ten to convince anyone who would hire a model you have experience.

Or, like I say, the alternative is you find a talented photographer just starting out. Most photographers just starting out suck. You have to have a lot of experience to be a good portrait photographer. But some really have a knack for it.

Like I say, even a good portfolio will only get your foot in the door. There's no guarantee it'll give you a job or get you to the point you can live comfortably just from modeling.

Send some photos of yourself to a reputable agency in your country by e-mail. If you get any positive response, you will know whether you are competitive enough for a career as a model. Very often does it happen that different would-be models have a different type of beauty and only an experienced booker can tell you for which country\market you are suitable for.
You can also try enrolling in a modelling course or in an agency in your area. Buy every issue of Vogue and Elle and learn how to form your style and how to pose in front of the camera.
And remember: people in the fashion industry are sometimes very harsh- whatever they tell you , don;t take it to heart. And don;t starve yourself to death.
Good luck

Move to LA or NY and go to a modeling agency. They will hire you on the spot and put you up in a place to stay.

Get some great headshots. Move to NY or LA where there are good agencies. Get a side job and start auditioning.

look up your local agencies and try out. Look for John Casablancas, or John Robert Powers. I think one of those is in your area. If you audition, just be yourself, and be natural, don't wear a lot of makeup, and don't be overdone. Just smile!

Try a homeless shelter.
It's where you'll wind up anyway.
