The ThrustSSC Turbofan, driven by Briton Andy Green, reached a top speed of 760.343 mph/1223.65 K/ph at Black Rock Desert, a dry lake bed in northwestern Nevada on October 15, 1997.
True, you can't buy a ThrustSSC Turbofan at your local dealership and modify it so it will go really fast, however, it is a car, albeit one with unconventional looks and you weren't too specific with your question.

You need to be a little more specific. You talking land speed record? You talking top-fuel dragster? You talking street legal modified? You talking off the dealer lot? Narrow it down some.
