I suffered for years with depression. It was impossible to talk to my parents about it, so I understand where you are coming from.
First, check out depression.com, it may help you gain some information about your symptoms.
You should see a doctor. You don't have to see a shrink, necessarily, but your general doctor may be able to help you. Don't forget, what you tell them is confidential, they will not tell your mom.
Get the help you deserve and need. Don't go through life unhappy and worried. It takes guts to admit that you may need help, but your first step was right here on Yahoo.
The only other suggestion I have is an herbal remedy, St. John's Wort. You can get it just about anywhere nowadays. However, one pill a day won't work, it is multiple pills a day, and the cost will add up. Further, it may not work for you.
Good luck.

I have had depression or the sads pretty bad at times.Medication has helped me. But I have found a way to break a deep case of the sads pretty near every time by willing your self to think positive thoughts. The trouble with thinking negatively (about bad and sad things) is that it causes a depressed feeling to come over you. This depressed feeling in turn cause more negative thoughts (like feeling sorry for yourself) and this then causes a deeper sad feeling and so on in an orgy of negativity.
To break out of this cycle you have to force yourself to think about happy things. It is hard because the sad feeling results in going back to thinking sad things if you relax your will. Keep at it and the sads will turn into more happy feelings to go along with the happy thoughts. Turning on nice music helps. If this doesn't soon get you into a state of joy I'll be surprised.
A real bad case of clinical depression with thoughts of suicide or harming yourself will require seeing a psychologist or at least the family Dr. Good Luck.

If you think youre depressed, maybe try some St. Johns Wort. Its an herbal treatment thats been used for centuries to help with drepression (mild to moderate, not really useful for severe depression) But its in the vitamin aisle of any grocery or retail store. The best news is that it has been proven to help (it helps my brother) and you dont have to have a doctors prescription to get it. Its just something you may want to look into

actually there is no question that what you are going through at this time is definitely is depression but sometimes you can actually treat depression yourself and depression is nothing but a chemical inbalance in your brain and it knocks the way the brain usually functions by making your emotions go haywire take a walk for about 30 minutes to an hour and do it everyday and you'll see that the chemical inbalance will be corrected and of course i know something about it because I was seeing a therapist andthat is what she told me to do, and it is probably a wise decision not to seek professional help to much money and the anti depression medicine makes you more depressed than what you already were
