Homemade Macaroni & Cheese. The more "Old-Fashioned" the better. Cost is no object. Ingredients can be run-of-the-mill or exotic. Calories/Fat/Carbs/Cholesterol: THE MORE THE BETTER, lol.... I want a recipe for Mac&Cheese that will blow my mother in law CLEAN outta her chair when I make the meal for this weekend. I can cook really well, but I don't have an "ace-in-the-hole" recipe for this. I will need it by Friday. Thanks, ladies...

I am really looking for a traditional family recipe that your family has passed down for many years. I want a recipe that you have made personally, and have had good results with. And, my husband will slaughter ME if I serve anything less than traditional "down home" food, no vegan stuff. We're as southern as sweet tea and cornbread, lol...

"The Lady's Cheesy Mac" Recipe courtesy Paula Deen
Show: Paula's Home Cooking (The Food Network)

4 cups cooked elbow macaroni, drained
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup sour cream
4 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Once you have the macaroni cooked and drained, place in a large bowl and while still hot and add the cheddar. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and add to the macaroni mixture. Pour macaroni mixture into a casserole dish and bake for 30 to 45 minutes. Top with additional cheese if desired.

I haven't tried this one myself YET, but I hv tried other Paul Deen recipes n they are always WONDERFUL! Paula does not care how decadent n rich a dish is, which is fine by me! lol! It should b killer! Looks easy, maybe u can preview it b4 Fri?

Good luck!

I've never had a mac and cheese that didn't taste like mac and cheese, no matter how it was prepared. There's only so many ways you can spruce it up. I guess you could try a different type of cheese than the traditional cheddar. Personally, I think it'd be more fun to make a cheese fondue.

If you know a good fettucini alfredo recipe, use macaroni instead of ribbon noodles and add sharp cheddar to the mix.

Fettucini always has alot of butter & cream in it and always tastes wonderful.

Let me know what time dinner is, I'll be there.

I found one at www.recipezaar.com by this woman named Rita P. and it was awesome. She even submitted a picture of it. This mac & cheese is to die for. I made it and this is the only one I swear by now. It is really good. However, I do like to overcook my noodles slightly because it tastes much better to me. Try it, you'll be glad you did. Recipezaar has hundreds of mac & cheese recipes with ratings so look at them all! FOR FREE too, I'm sure you'll find one you'll want to try!

gee, knowing that you want the BEST recipe, im hesitant, but everyone loved my moms and mine. she just added alittle milk and butter to cooked, hot elbow macaroni and LOTS of velveeta cheese. when i make it, i add cheddar to it too and if i have it, alittle mozzerella. ive put seasoned bread crumbs on it too and baked it after it was cooked. thats good. hope u find that ace-in-the-hole tho to use on your mother-in-law. happy holidays :)
