Maybe your pastor was referring to the age when Man first was created. Man and the present day animals are new creations. They did not evolve from something else. It is a fact that there were several creations, different age or period, prior to man's creation. The Bible did not elaborate much about previous creations but there is or are passage/s that suggest previous creation. The Bible start Gen. 1:1 In the Beginning..., as you can see In the beginning refers to the time of Mans creation and its present environment, plants and animals. Previous creations started and end and so as our time, we are created in this time probably close to 6,000 years now since the creation of Man (Modern Present Day). and would also end.

How long have people been living on earth? The evolutionist says millions of years. Bible believing Christians generally say only about 6,000 years. But the answer to this question is amazingly simple.
If we start with only two people, and they have four children who live to have their own children, the second generation now has twice as many people - four. Now allowing for infant mortality and other human problems that keep population down, we still find that on the average it only takes about 130 years to double the earth's population. This figure fits into known historical records. And if anything, it's a conservative number.
If human history is 2 million years, as the evolutionists say, the earth ought to have a lot more people than it does now. Alternatively, if we accept the 2 million years, then it must have taken 125,000 years to double the population in order to finish with today's world population. But that doesn't make any sense at all, especially since human historical records show that the doubling time is about 1,000 times less!
But if we start with eight people and reckon that the population doubles every 130 years, we find that it takes only about 4,000 to 4,500 years to get a population of 1 billion. And that was the earth's population in the year 1800 - just about 4,200 years after the Flood - through which only eight people were saved to repopulate the earth!

science does not prove that the world is older that what the bible says. and it says it is just over six thousand years. the evolution theory is just a theory with no real proof to back it.by the way, there are human boes older than dinosaur bones. man has been on the earth for just as long and we are still around. read the book of Genesis in the bible. it will explain what i am saying. the reason there are bones under solid rock is because of the worldwide flood that happened about four thousand years ago. fourty days and nights of intense rain will cause the tallest mountain to become the flattest prarie. fill a bucket half way with dirt, salt, and a few scrapings of bacteria. then put a piece of meat into it with a bone. fill it the rest of the way with water and a pump to get the water moving. cover it and leave it for three hundred days and see what happens. that should be dirt from your yard, preferrably from your garden. it is a simple test to conduct and will help you to understand the bible a little better. one more minor detail, the warter should be extremely muddy and dirty, like from a mud puddle.

The earth is older than 5000 years. The Bible says so. You must ask the question "..how many years are between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2...?" In the first verse it says "..God saw the world was void.." The second verse God starts to create it as we know it today and that was only about 2000 years ago.
Translation: God saw a globe of nothing floating in space (void) and then He made something out of it (today's earth). You know He does the same with people. He transforms a person from sinner to Godly. The question is not how old is earth. It is when was earth AS WE KNOW IT created???? Now you won't have to worry about what us Christians believe.
As for Darwin's theory - he apologized for his theory on his death bed; therefore I don't accept it either. If the author claims it is wrong then why would we pursue the issue???

The concept is how old is the world based on when Adam was created, believed to be about 6,000 years ago...although there is evidence that it is more like 10,000 years ago. This concept has been around before evolution theory, but it is often used to debunk the notion of evolutionist that life evolved on earth over millions of years. Both positions rely on presupposition and not on any factual evidence. The reality is that these issues will not be satisfactorily determined any time soon.

Dear Jonathan,
The world is 13,000+ years old. According to all that we know from the Bible, it appears that 2011 will be the year in which Christ returns and the universe shall be destroyed with great heat (2 Peter 3).
The church age ended in 1988 and satan is now ruling in ALL local congregations and churches. The Holy Spirit has left ALL the local churches and so it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to be saved there (2 Thessalonians 2). Those who remain in the churches are being sent a strong delusion that they will believe the lie and be damned. The Lord has commanded the true believers to come out of the churches because they have become Babylon (Revelation 18:4-).
The Great Tribulation period is not a period of 7 years as most theologians believe, but is a 23 year period. It will culminate with the 2nd coming of Christ, the rapture, and the destruction of the entire universe. This will also mark Judgment Day.

Your pastor is out of touch with modern theological developments and the harmony that exists between faith and science. Both come from God, there are no conflicts unless science strays from its own sphere, then it's no longer science.
This is a major problem for those who stick to the doctrine of sola scriptura, because it does not allow for truth to exist outside a literary interpretation of the Bible. Science is truth, and truth cannot contradict truth.
"no real disagreement can exist between the theologian and the scientist provided each keeps within his own limits. . . . If nevertheless there is a disagreement . . . it should be remembered that the sacred writers, or more truly ‘the Spirit of God who spoke through them, did not wish to teach men such truths (as the inner structure of visible objects) which do not help anyone to salvation’; and that, for this reason, rather than trying to provide a scientific exposition of nature, they sometimes describe and treat these matters either in a somewhat figurative language or as the common manner of speech those times required, and indeed still requires nowadays in everyday life, even amongst most learned people" (Leo XIII, Providentissimus Deus 18).
As the Catechism puts it, "Methodical research in all branches of knowledge, provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things the of the faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are" (CCC 159). The Catholic Church has no fear of science or scientific discovery.
I'm afraid your pastor lives in a dream world.

What has struck me about the whole evolution thing is the whole cultural difference between the USA and UK.
Cause from what i have seen just as many people from both countries fundamentally don't understand science - not just evolution but they wouldn't be able to explain to you about the theory of light, gravity etc.
Most people what ever they say they believe can't tell you the different between scientifice fact, theory, hypothesis and pub talk.
The difference is more people in the USA will say that they believe the church - whether they understand all the evidence one way or the other
more people from the uk say they believe in evolution.
However - most of them couldn't tell you why exactly they believe it.

IF BIBLE MATH WAS WRONG THE WHOLE BIBLE WOULD BE WRONG
EARTH IS EARTH AND AGE OF EARTH IS AGE OF EARTH AS A PLANET
WORLD IS WORLD AND AGE OF WORLD IS AGE OF WORLD FROM ADAM AND EDEN
The bible math is correct.
The age of the earth and the age of the world are different. People misrepresent things.
Gen.1:1,2 [ The earth and all exist here, it is evident ];
Gen.1:3 [ Earth is a focus for preparation here ];
Gen.1:11,12 [ Earth is a focus for plant life, plant life a priority, needed extra light through earth protection shield, with seasons ];
Earth existing and in preparation ages, eras and eons before man begans his time in the world from Adam to #10 son Noah, to #20 son Abraham and family to Moses and half a million Promised Land heirs, to #34 son David, Solomon and Judah kings to #48 son Zedekiah at Babylon Empire #3, captivity? 606 years to # 62 son Jesus in Roman Empire #6. Matt.1:1-17;
To now in 2006 years after Jesus.
Rev,20:1-6 [ No Satan ]; The 1000 year reign of Christ, to all is perfect as before Eden.
TIMES AS GIVEN IN THE BIBLE
2Pet.3:5 [ heavens and earth old ];
2Pet.3:8 [ 1000 years as 1 day, = LORD ];
Psm.77:5 [ years of ancient times ];
Psm.90:2 [ earth and the world ];
Eph.1:4 [ Foundation of the world ];
Eph.3:5 [ Other ages ]; 2:7 [ future ages ];
Col.1:26 [ from ages and generations ];
Job.38:4-7 [Foundation of the earth ];
Job 37:12 [ world in the earth ];
John 17:3,5,24 [ Jesus with God before the world was, before Abraham 5:58 ];
Col.15-17 [ Jesus first creation created in image of God Rev.3:14];
Rev.20:1-6 [ 1000 year reign of Christ ]; THE AGE OF THE WORLD IS 6,072, SATAN HAS 6,130 AND JESUS 1000 TO MAKE ALL AS PERFECT AS BEFORE EDEN.

Because they are leaning on our their own understanding. As Christians we some times depend on our own understanding or studies and not ask God to show us.
Peter wrote also that to God a day is like a 1000 years and 1000 years like a day.
As far as aging anything millions of years old, it just has to be fossilized by natural dissaster, lightening & water.
