Looking for some ideas. I have a problem with my jaw and for the next few weeks ( over christmas ) I can only have a liquid diet, no food that involves chewing. Any ideas would be great.

Puree/blend almost anything. Try and do it separately by food though - mixing 'em all up together will probably taste like crap.

See what you can swallow, something that's not completely pureed, that still has some small chunks in it, might have a slightly better mouth feel than something that's been completely creamed.

Keep experimenting, the variety may help carry you through.

Try making the blends spicier, saltier, sweeter, or more sour than you might normally go for.

Sucking on high-calorie foods that will dissolve, like chocolates or hard candy may be a nice break, though it might be a temptation to bite into them.

Umm, if you want, you can try staying drunk for a while. :-)

Stay away from smells of food that require chewing. If anyone grills a steak near you, go forth and kill them. No biting though.

This sounds bad but it's actually good when you get sick of mashed potatoes. My father-in-law just got all of his teeth pulled and got implants so he can't chew anything at all. I made chili and left the meat out. Then I put it in the blender and he loved it. He said it was the best meal he has had. Here is a recipe if you want to try it:

1 large can tomato juice
2 cans stewed tomatoes
1 pack Brooks chili seasoning (mild for him, maybe you don't need mild though)
1 large can Brooks Chili (Hot) beans
Spaghetti (you won't taste it but it will help fill you up)

For everyone else, I browned meat and put it over the top with cheese and onions. Good luck! Happy slurping!

I had a similar problem earlier this year and had to live on what my family called baby food. I had mostly soups, sloppy mashed potato, scrambled egg, smoothies, egg custard, yoghurt and milk. My liquidiser became my best friend for several weeks to make sure everything was smooth and liquid.

Lentil Dhall: Red lentil and diced vegetables slowly cooked with spices and garlic then blended into a curry soup.

Ingredients

1-oz Red lentils (Chana Dal rinsed)
3-floz veg oil
4-oz onion (finely chopped)
½ tsp ginger paste

2 tsp tomato puree
1 tsp turmeric
½ tsp chilli powder
½ tsp garam masala
½ tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder

8-oz mixed vegetables (diced)
4-oz potatoes, (diced small)

15-floz of hot water (mixed with half a vegetable stock)
2 tbsp fresh coriander.

Method

Heat the oil in a medium sized pan, add the chopped onion, and
ginger paste, cook on a medium heat until the onions brown at
the edges.(Approximately 10 minutes).

Rinse the lentils add them to the pan and cook for 2 minutes. The
lentils will stick to the pan when wet, keep string until they loosen.

Turn down the heat and add the tomato puree, turmeric powder,
chilli powder, garam masala, salt, garlic powder, and stir.

Add the mixed vegetables, diced potatoes, fresh green coriander,
and 15-floz vegetable stock. bring to the boil, cover, turn down
the heat and simmer for half an hour. Add a little water if needed.

Serve as it is (chunky) or blend into a smooth soup and serve with
crusty buttered bread.

Alternative: Swap the red lentils for yellow lentils (motor dal).

Serves 4.

The 8-oz of mixed vegetables I use are:

2-oz cabbage (shredded)
2-oz frozen peas
2-oz turnip (diced small)
2-oz carrot (diced small)

You could use other vegetables but try these first.

I know this sounds really bad but the desert baby food! lmao!! My baby has hipp organic bannana and custard and I've go to say it's really nice...Oh I sound like a looney! anyway...um jelly, soup, stew if the meat is really soft, yoghurts, not very interesting are they though. I don't think fish takes much chewing. But If it's a liquid diet, there are some great baby foods available!!
