Kev-I quit a 14 year 2 pack Marlboro habit 2 New Year's resolutions ago!
Unfortunately, my method is not recommended by me, unless it is inevitable-Reason being I was hospitalized for two weeks and one day, the hospital stuck to their strick "NO SMOKING" policies-The one and only time I wheeled my i.v. pole and went into the "visitors toilet", not even 5 minutes later, I had half the nurses staff on case, telling me off (probably whiile a poor sweet little old lady was coding, or fallen out of her bed-YES, I have a big prob w/this particular hospital, and overall in general all of them-Some are remarkable as well, but the one I was in not only were abusive to the elderly, but stepped on my pain meds twice-It was seen by a friend-nurse of mine. i know it's off the topic, sorry, that is how much I hate that place (and all hospitals, for very good reason too-which is too much off the topic, but has been brought up in the local papers, by my calling a reporter into my room (which had 5 patients stuffed into a 2 bed room)Worse yet, was local papers "VERY" recently uncovered a certain hospital (I dont know if I can say the name of the B****t hospital or not, doesnt matter) had MAGGOTS fallling out of the ceiling in the operating theatre whilst in middle of open chest surgery on a poor patient-52 maggots fell out of the ceiling, and I dont know what became of the poor patient-Sorry again that it is off the smoking topic, but I experienced all and witnessed all of what I said in OUR local hospital. Too close to home for me. Well, again, sorry Kevin for topic jump: The way I beat the habit was after 14 days of no smoke, and no smoke in the air anywhere near me, the first thing I did was have my lighter lit when I had one foor out of the door, and lit up-Well, that puff knocked me down, and I felt so sick-The time spent in a smoke free environment helped my body so quickly start to clear out the 1000's of chemicals (arsenic, syanide, strychanine, formaldehyde, plus countless others) that were built up in my body for so long did it for me. I STUPIDLY kept "trying" to get over the sick smell and actual fainting a few times, so I could keep my precious coffin nails (aka-cancer sticks)-But my body won the fight and to this date I still get a sick reaction to smoke, and can smell residue of any cigarettes from 3 countries away!!!
Quitting is one of the best things you can do for yourself, I never went back, and if I CAN DO IT, (trust me) you surely can as well. I hope you do-if you are even a smoker, you didnt say. Anywho, Happy New Healthy Year 2007 in advance!

No and I'm glad I gave up smoking over 25 years ago

ESPECIALLY following the Daily Mail article last week:

Polonium 210, the radioactive element that killed the ex spy Alexander Litvinenko far from being very rare, can be found in all cigarettes.

According to the article, apparently this has been known since the early 1990's and it is the main cause of lung cancer (90% of lung cancer deaths is triggered by P-210). It collects in the lungs and constantly emits alpha-particles, damaging your DNA. Apparently, a smoker on 30 a day gets the equivalent of 300 x-rays a year because of the Polonium.

But, as smoking is an addiction, even knowing this won't be enough for most smokers to give it up.

Not me! Why should i give up one of the last remaining pleasures in my life, espesially if some crooked politician says i have to when he's quite happy to start an illegal war which has caused god knows how many deaths!

I already did. Aside from losing a chunk of weight, it's the best thing I ever did for my body. I don't miss it at all.
