Because whatever the religious faith is, it based on complete fiction.
Because its really boring.
Because they don't really think unbelievers will burn in hell, they just want to try and gain 'brownie points' by perhaps making a convert.
Because non religious folk have nothing at all in common with religious fanatics, I could never imagine having a pint of beer with a feller that was preaching, the bar would be empty in no time.
They can believe whatever they like, they can kill anyone who doesn't believe in their 'brand' of religion, I don't want to hear about it.
As for your car over the cliff bit, I don't need religion to warn people of danger, or to help folk out if I possibly can.
If people think we could all burn in hell then they are really sick and they are the ones that should be warned.

I wonder if atheists even read this, even though it is a valuable resource to attempt to prove the probability of the existence of the supernatural (I am Catholic by the way):
Once she was declared Blessed, it took only two years for the necessary next two miracles to be approved. In 1925, two cures had been investigated and judged to be supernatural, through the intercession of St. Therese. The first involved Gabrielle Trimusi from Parma, Italy. Gabrielle had suffered from arthritis of the knee and tubercular lesions on the vertebrae. The final cure involved Maria Pellemans of Schaerbeck, Belgium. Maria suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis which had spread, as Therese's illness had, to the intestines. The diagnosis of pulmonary and intestinal tuberculosis was made by a Dr. Vandensteene, who also examined Maria after she came back from visiting Therese's grave. The doctor testified, "I found Miss Pellemans literally transformed. This young woman, out of breath from the least movement, moves about without fatigue; she eats everything given to her, with a very good appetite. The abdomen presents no tender point, when formerly the least pressure produced severe pain. All symptoms of tubercular ulceration of the intestine have disappeared." In reports predating Maria's return to health, two other physicians confirmed Dr. Vandensteen's diagnosis of pulmonary and intestinal tuberculosis. On May 17, 1925, Therese was officially declared a Saint by Pope Pius XI.
If you read it with an open mind, you either feel as they do, or you have heard the truth echo, the reason? It challenges their faith.
Though sometimes the people preaching are actually ignorant and annoying, this isn't always, or even ussually the case.

If you saw a car heading for the edge of the cliff, you would be justified in recognizing the law of gravity as real, it's not a myth. You can bet your life on that. On the other hand, just because I believe that the Flying Spaghetti Monster will eat you if you don't jump up and down three times a day shouting "Ramen" at the top of your voice doesn't mean my preaching this philosophy will be well-received.

The problem is not other religions- or the problem is not Christianity- the problem is in humans- most people are crappy sales people- most Christians do not know how to share their faith without making some one feel uncomfortable.
Its not about religion its about human psychology- why do you think sales people are so disliked- not because they have a bad product its the way they go about marketing their product
I sell mattresses, how would you feel if I said "if you dint buy my mattress you will NEVER BE HAPPY"
That's called high pressure sales.
That is called manipulation- it is never pleasant- no one likes to be manipulated. This type of message will always be resisted.
Most churches are filled with nice good people but most people are not skilled in the art of persuasion. If you can find out what a persons values are and cater your message about your religion that way- you can share your faith with people and they will be more interested in what you have to say

We don't want to hear it if we follow something different. Preachers of a faith are just like those people who try to recruit more people for their church.
You compared it to an ultimatum which would force someone to either live or die from your word, so that makes every other option null and void. That's another thing. Ultimatums. You can't possibly say that there are only 2 places you go after you die! There are the other planets, and dimensions, and planes of existence, and Purgatory (hell) is on the ninth plane, which is one of the thousands of places you could go.

It gets annoying after awhile. I can understand that they're trying to "help". But I get tired of hearing it. Okay, so you think your way is the right way, hooray for you. I know that now you think that it's your duty as a good person to try and show others the right way, but if I've already politely declined, can't you just let it be.
Truth is, I've already been a lot of things(a Catholic, a Jehova's Witness, a Mormon, a Baptist). And I didn't feel happy in any of them. I didn't feel that they were necessarily doing what God expected of them. I've read up on religion. I've read the bible. And truth be told, I've gotten tired of the hypocrisy and the corruption of it all. I have yet to find the religion that encompasses all of my beliefs. So I'm tired of people trying to show me the "right way". Why bother? I don't believe in what they're preaching. Quite frankly, I think they're going the "wrong way". So I'm just tired of religion, overall. I believe what I believe. A mixture of basically all of the major religions in the world. I believe in God. I live according to what I think is right. I read the bible every night. Isn't that enough? Or do I have to sit in some church and label myself.
Religion is I think such a sensitive and intimate topic. And I'm tired of being converted or "saved". I think that Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, all have good qualities in them. I just don't want to conform. So, that's why I'm tired of people trying to "save" me.
I know you probably weren't hoping to elicit such a strong response with your question. So, for that I apologize. But everything else is what I firmly believe.

While I am a diehard christian, and I have to say that I don't support the muslim faith for reasons which i can go into later if you feel like emailing me or whatever, I agree with you. If someone is in danger of being hurt, you should warn them, you should "throw them a safty line" if you will. But, you have to make sure that you are throwing them the right one, which requires you to compare that line with others. If no one told why they believed their religion, you would have no comparison, and no way to tell which "truth" is the truth.

Because it gets my hackles up when someone who doesn't know ANY MORE THAN I DO about the origins of life, the universe and everything starts getting in my face about how I need to conform my beliefs to theirs.
Until someone has died, met with God face to face and been sent back here to specifically talk to me about it (and hey, God's phone number would be handy too), these mostly well-intentioned folks need to just back off and put their own houses in order. You're guessing, so am I. You want to change my mind, bring proof.
And make it good.

I do not believe in religion, only spirituality,So no doctrine is true word for word any way,in my opinion.People like to think on there own and do not need any book to tell them how to live life.God or universal cosciousness ,divine presents, speak to us if we listen to our hearts and minds. He tells us how to live a loving life from within

It is because faith reguardless of what form is only a matter of conditioned ideas.
Would you say well it's my conditioned ideas? That doesn't sound as good as it's my faith. This is because the one is a recognition of reality while the other is a delusion created by a religion!
Lose the faith (Conditioned Ideas) and start to think for yourself!
