There are only two kinds of chihuahuas...short and long hair. "Teacups" don't exist. It's a name that unscrupulous breeders use to sell the unhealthy runts. Not to mention, they don't really know how big they'll grow anyway...a lot of so called teacups end up being 7+lbs...it's a pure marketing scam. Don't get sucked in.

Please don't take this personally but this question annoys me. There is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua. AKC standards of a chihuahua to be shown is 6 pounds and under. But they can range in size from very tiny to larger sizes. A breeder will breed two smaller chihuahua's together and then call the runts teacups. Usually the smaller the chi the more health problems that will arise. I have a 3 pound chi, a 4 1/2 pound chi, a 5 pound chi and a 6 pound chi. Even the six pound chi is small. Breeders will jack up the price of these runts and as I said before they are usually not the healthiest and will end up costing a bundle in vet bills. Please do not be fooled by breeders doing this. Smaller is not always better and they are not any cuter, especially when they are sick. Any breeder calling their chi's teacups are a breeder you want to stay away from. Do you have a chi or considering getting one?

A teacup Chihuahua is one that is bred by irresponsible idiots who are only looking to make money. Teacups almost always are not registered, have mental and physical deformities, and will die early, usually of some genetic disease because of owners who don't care about the health of the puppy, only that they can make money off of them. These dogs don't come with any papers, and the breeders don't care what happens to the dog after its sold.

A regular Chihuahua is one that is usually bred by responsible breeders who show their registered dogs, and will only breed when they have an exceptional pair that will defiantely create dogs that fit the breed standard, will be healthy mentally and physically, and an asset to the breed. These responsible breeders will interview anyone wanting a puppy to make sure the dogs are going to the best home possible. They will always come with papers, and sometimes a lifetime health guarentee. The breeders will expect you to keep them updated about the puppies progress, and, in the event you can't keep it, they will always either take it back or find a new home for it.

A "teacup" is a marketing scam. It is an expression used by breeders of undersized dogs to increase the cost of the pups.

There is no recognized type of dog called a "teacup chihuahua".

If you read the Chihuahua breed standard, there is only one size!!! Anyone selling "teacup" anything has inbred the breed to get them smaller and smaller and they are very unhealthy. Teacup is a fake size designation used to charge more money for a breed to the unsuspecting and uneducated public.

Size and cost. My Aunt have a Teacup and it full grown and fit in your hand. Below a good link of a teacup chihuahua full grown. You not do this with a regular chihuahua.

Teacup simply means "small", It's not a different "kind" of Chihuahua, it's just a small one.
