Okay, well I really want to watch some old home videos from about 1996-1998 or so but our old video camera won't work...so I was wondering, does anyone know how to convert the old video camera tapes to a CD so I can watch them on the computer? Thanks! :-)

I have a TV card in my PC, and was able to hook my old format camcorder into it. I played the videos into the PC, and recorded them at the same time via the TV card. If your camcorder doesn't work, you might be able to do the same thing if you can find a VHS adapter: your video tape would fit into the VHS adapter, then you can play it on a standard VHS deck, into your PC via the TV/Video capture card.

If you don't have any of that equipment, there are probably services in your area that will do this. Google 'video transfer' for your zip code.

Old camera video output =====> New Camera Video Input -- Yellow to Yellow Old camera audio output(s) ===> New Camera Audio Input(s) -- White to White and Red to Red Play on old camera with old tape Record on new one with new blank tape Substitute a stand alone DVD recorder for the new camera and use its inputs. Record on it and then when done finalize the DVD if +R or -R (not required for +RW or -RW discs). Be sure to use the right discs for the machine. CD does not hold enough information for most videos even in VCD recording mode on computers.

The simplest solution is indeed to buy a DVD recorder and hook up the camera to it... but you need to have something to put your old tapes in!!
You didn't say what format the tapes are, but you'll need to get a camera / deck that can play them to convert them to anything...
