If Jesus did say it and it wasnt true then He wasnt even a good man. But even contemporary writers at the time mention that He DID make such a claim even though they themselves didn't follow Him. But one thing that helps convince me the most is that every disciple, apostle (aside from John) and hundreds of followers were all tortured to death for claiming they saw Jesus risen from the dead. Now this doesnt sound that convincing Im sure, because you will first think "Lots of people die believing a lie... look at Heavens Gate" true... but if they KNEW it was a lie would they? Most likely not. If the followers and disciples did not really see Jesus risen from the dead, they knew it.. and they knew they were lying when they said they did. All they would have had to do was admit they DIDNT see Him and they wouldnt have been killed. They certainly werent worried about reputation, money or power... they were about to die. If they were concerned about those things, they would have just said "No I didnt really see him" and get on with their lives. But their convictions were even too strong to just say it to save their butts. People rarely ever die for what they KNOW is a lie.

That is a hard one to answer. I myself find it in doubt that the Bible isn't exaggerating. But, the books of the Bible were written by God through man. And you don't think God said to Matthew to say "Hey, make some silly stuff up that no one will believe"). If you're a crazy hobo, of course it wouldn't be true. But, it's hard to tell if you really are the son of God or just plain crazy.

First, according to the Bible we (believers) are "All" sons of God, both male and female.
In John 1:12-13
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Now conerning Jesus it wasnt Jesus who first said he was the "Son" of God. It was God.
In Psalm 2:7 we read; I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
This is followed up with Hebrew 1:5-6 of the New Testament
For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

How do you know that the atheist who told you that they is no God is telling you the truth. You just believe him/her. We have the written word of God that has stood the test of time. It has been banned, burned, outlawed in certainly situations but its still here. Not only is it still here, but people who read it and study have life changing things happen in their lives. You are in the box my friend, you only believe what you see. We see not only with the human eye, but with spiritual eyes the things of God. We believe the Jesus story because His Spirit enters the heart of man and gives the reassurance of the truth.

The disciples would not have endured the horrible deaths that they did (stoning, crucifixion, etc.), for a lie. If it had been a lie, at least one of them would have cracked under all that pain. The fact that none of them did can only point to the fact that they gave their lives for the Truth.

He is the only one( that I am aware of) that claimed to be not only the Son of God but also God the Son.
What if I am wrong. What would I change about the way I have conducted myself in this life? What have I lost?

First someone demands proof that Jesus claimed to be The Son of God, then proof is provided, and you question the Authority of the Scripture. I laugh at your arrogant unbelief !

No one is forcing you to believe that Jesus spoke the truth Pal......but apparently you have trouble with other people believing it..
We will certainly believe Jesus before we believe your foolish opinions.
So Quit being a bigot and learn that others have a right to say exactly what Jesus said.....
And remeber according to Jesus YOUR choice WILL decide your destiny....
"He that believeth and is baptized SHALL BE SAVED; he that believes not SHALL BE DAMNED ". - Jesus
