I had almost dark chocolate hair naturally, this summer it got lighter from being out doors and has yet to go back to being dark. (it is still a dark brown)

It looks like it has a pink tint to it almost in photos and under certain light. I don't much care for how it looks.

I'd like to have dark hair agian. If I colour it I will probably use a #2 semi permanant.

Will colouring it darker damage my hair, I know going lighter will?

Is there a way I can "train" my hair back to being dark chocolate brown? ( i know that sounds silly, but my friends hair went naturally curly after she got a perm)

Going darker with a level 2 shouldnt damage your hair at all. When going darker your putting pigment into the hair, instead of going lighter and taking it out. Use a deep conditioner and you'll be fine. I like to go to Aveda salons bc they use all natural ingrediants, my hair always feels twice as healthy when i leave!

Generally I'd say that there would be little or no damage at all, considering you're going darker and not lighter. Going lighter requires some amount of bleach, which can definitely be damaging. This all depends on your hair texture as well. If you have naturally thinner or drier hair then it will be more damaged by hairdye than someone with thicker, normal to oily hair.

Certainly, dying over and over again will eventually damage hair (for most people), but just a couple of dyes shouldn't hurt you. However, I'll warn you, from personal experience, it is very diffidult to cover over a lighter dye job. Often, the darker color you try to put on with get absorbed by the original lighter dye, as time passes, so the dark color you attempt will eventaully lighten back up. When you have colored with a light color, unfortunately, you generally have to let it run it's course. Try coloring over it with a darker color, but don't be disappointed when that dark color lightens up.

I have been dying, bleaching, perming my hair for almost forty years, and never had any damage yet. Accidentally turned it orange, green, purple. But it is still in good shape.
