The cheapest solution is a roll of two sided carpet tape, which you apply to the edges of the rug and across the middle. It really works!

I gone mine at either Kmart or Walmart. It was in the Housewares section. The one I bought was 5 x7 it is almost just like the rubbery shelf covering. If you have some of the it would probably work.

It is a thin rubbery sheet that you lay down and put the rug exactly on it and no more slipping.

professional interior decorators use a mat that is kind of rubbery, it is sold in all carpet outlets, just ask for a "rug scooter stopper" i don't think that is what they are called but it will bring the light on in the densest of store clerks.

use the foamy stuff, it helps the carpet not more. it comes in a roll, in many colors. you can find it in any store, try the home decor section, and in the grocery store in the aisle where the light bulbs are.

There are this no slip pad thing that you can get to put under the carpet so that it doesn't slip.

Get some strips of velcro and stick the rough parts to the underneath of your mat.
