I am looking for a recipe for the frosting that you use on sugar cookies that spreads on nice a flat. It seems like it is almost more of a glaze. Any ideas?

This is my favorite one as it's easy, takes only a few ingredients, and works GREAT. It dries to a nice hard finish and tastes good too!

1 cup minus 2 tablespoons confectioner's sugar
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
Food coloring

Just whisk the sugar and cream until smooth. Then add food coloring until you get the color you want. You can separate the glaze into separate bowls and bake different colors if you want. The recipe doubles and triples real easy as well (in case you're making a TON of cookies - if so save some for me!). This makes enough to glaze 15 large or 25 small cookies.

5 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
food coloring (optional)

Directions
1 In a large bowl, cream together the confectioners' sugar and shortening until smooth. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes. Color with food coloring if desired.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons milk
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
assorted food coloring
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, stir together confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.
Divide into separate bowls, and add food colorings to each to desired intensity. Dip cookies, or paint them with a brush.

Yes, you should use frosting on sugar coolies, they are not the same without it. As far as where to get some I would try your local supermarket. Good Luck!

I don't know exactly what you are talking about but I used to work in a bakery and the white frosting was mixed with melted white chocolate and just made them extra special and popular.
