Your doctor should have told you, when he/she prescribed it for you. If it wasn't prescribed, you shouldn't be taking it until you see a doctor. If it's used when it shouldn't be, not only will it be of absolutely no help, but it is also likely to select for resistant bacteria in your system (eg. MRSA and the newly emerging VRSA) that will cause problems for you (and all of us) in the future.

For adults, by mouth, take up to 500 mg ( 250-500 mg) every 8 hrs.

Certainly you can do the math...

Like the guys said, take only if prescribed, and .... do not take aspirin with it or it will increase effect of amoxicillin.

Hmmm. Pretty frightening that one would seek medical advice on Yahoo answers. You probably shouldn't take the drug at all without a physician's exam and prescription.

That depends on the indication (why the drug was prescribed). If you have specific questions ask your doctor or pharmacist!
