St Petersburg is always beautiful with the churches, the Hermitage, and the spectacular views. Stockholm is just as nice and has also the Nobel prize museum. walking through galmal stan is like no other. if you want to go back to mid evil times Tallinn! The old city has some areas that are like walking back to the 14th century and the city prides itself on the culture of it.There is even a museum on the mid evil torture devices in the town square. Klaipedia is a port town with a lot of Soviet era sights of interest and the old town has some nice works of art. amber is also very cheap but also watch out some of the amber is re constituted. Copenhagen is a history lesson in itself with the statue of the little mermaid and the danish resistance museum. also there it is recommended to take one of the water taxies for a ride you wont be disappointed. hope this helps a little.

We did the Baltic cruise on Celebrity Cruise line this past May. The cruise departed from Dover, England and had stops in Stockholm, Sweden; Copenhagen, Denmark; Helsinki, Finland; Tallen, Eastonia, Gdansk, Poland, St Perterburg, Russia; Rostock, Germany; and Oslo, Norway.
We liked all of the ports stops except Helsinki. Many of the stops will remind you that you are in what used to be a communist country, kinda old looking. I would recommend the cruise if you want to see old Europe. It was an interesting cruise but not as exciting as a Mediterranian cruise where you see really historic sites like the Vatican or Pisa

I used to work on cruise ships and the Baltic was one of the prettiest parts I ve ever sailed on. The sea can be a little rough from October-April but you cope with that. Gdansk is lovely also Riga,Tallinn etc Would recommend this part of the world to anyone.Enjoy!
