Tea tree oil comes from the melaleuka tree. It has been used in Australia for a very long time for medicinal purposes. It was first marketed in this country by a multi-level marketing company the Melaleuka Co. that was back in the late 1980's. It is a natural antibacterial, I use the soap on my face and no longer get breakouts. I hope that answered your question.

wow- yeah i'm not sure. It's been used in medicinial practices for ages and is used today for a number of different things. I buy mine from naturessunshine.com - so i know it's all natural.
