A-ha! A pet that is easy to manage!... Let me adopt your cat (maybe for a few hours...I'll perk him/her up)!! Hee hee! I'll surround the cat with lots of love and return him/her with a new name..... "Your Loving Cat!" Would that brighten up your day? ;-)

I think just letting it be lazy and sleep in your lap would brighten your day. Just having a cat around is supposed to make you emotionally and physically healthier, including the lowering of blood pressure. Just lay around and be lazy with your cat!

Cat nip! If you buy some catnip seeds and grow it yourself the fresh stuff drives my cat up the wall! We have a snake too and bought some live mice to breed for him and my cats now have their own tv!!! Even my really shy cat was out today just to watch the little mice run around! Mice do stink thought, gerbils are not as bad... That is if you want to get more pets...
Aww Puffy I lost my cat Bagherra 08/03/06!!!! I miss her everyday!

If your cat is lathargic, it often has to do with its food. Try changing to a higher protein diet, something like Science Diet or Iams (yes, unfortunately, they are often more expensive). If you want your cat to "brighten up" your day, then you need to start by doing something for him/her.

Dude....catnip mice. If your cat loves the kitty doobage, he'll go nuts. Failing that, I've had good luck with trailing string....my cat loooooooves it. And he's a lazy git too.

Get a cat toy with string on it or some string lol. My cats love chasing the string. They do the most amazing acrobatics lol.

Drag a string in front of him...that nearly always perks up my fat lazy cat and gets her going.

Wrong question.
It shouldn’t brighten up your day.
You should brighten up HIS (not its) day.
