Not at all! They only have a top coat-it's the under coat that most dogs shed. We have two and we feed them high quality dog food made for Yorkies (better quality food means less hair lost for all dogs) the only time they lose hair is when we brush them and it comes off in the brush.
Another bonus to Yorkies is that they don't smell 'doggy' unless they are neglected.

They are a virtually non-shedding breed although I have known a few to have odd coats that did shed. Yorkies must be professionally groomed every 4-8 weeks to keep their coat in good shape.

Like poodles, and poodle-derived dogs, no.

However, the do lose hair, and that hair makes mats (matts?) if you don't comb the dog every day or so.
