It seems like nothing but an attempt to "justify" their disregard for America's laws.

It's called deflection.

It is a way of responding to an argument when you have no logical or reasonable answer.

Yes, I am sick of it. I vote for removing all illegals in the United States. I believe that until we deport, we will not get a grip on or economy again.

Are we headed to war? No, it has already begun.

There's a big difference between stealing land and acquiring land by purchase or treaty.

Anyone who bothers to do any research (which apparently a lot of you on here don't bother to do) will find that in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Mexico ceded to the US most of the area of the southwest. And that the US actually agreed to PURCHASE the area for $15 million. And that the US agreed to take on $3.25 million in debts Mexico owed to US citizens. So the US basically purchased the southwest for $18.25 million. So you can't say it was STOLEN.

The Gadsden Purchase completed the areas of Arizona and New Mexico, purchased for $10 million by US Minister to Mexico James Gadsden. Again, it was not stolen, it was paid for by millions of dollars, which back then was a lot of money. If you cared to check Wikipedia, you would know that $10 million in 1853 is equivalent to about $230 million in 2004.

Please people, do your research before you give false answers. If I was a high school history teacher, half of you on here would get failing grades, because you didn't learn this.

To LatinaE - I agree that it was possibly unfair for the US to offer such a low amount for the purchase of such a large area, but the Mexican leaders also signed the treaty and agreed to the purchase price. As an example, you can't sell me something for $5, find out it's worth $20, and then demand the other $15. Mexico has no right to say we owe them anything, because their leaders agreed to the purchase price, low as it may have been. If you don't like the fact that the US bought the southwest for such a small amount, blame the Mexican government from the 1840's, don't blame TODAY'S Americans.

To Nexus - No, the Native Americans didn't have any treaties agreeing to split the land or something like that. The colonists just took their land, calling it manifest destiny. That, I will agree was completely unfair, and it is why today the Native tribes are allowed a lot of freedoms even American citizens don't get (they can have casinos on their land, they don't have to pay federal income tax, their health care is federally subsidized, etc.). Then again, the Spaniards came to Mexico and just took it over from the Aztec tribe, just like the early Americans did to US tribes.

But the question wan't about the Native Americans, it was in regard to the US taking Mexico's land, which according to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Gadsden Purchase, the US bought, not stole.

If we wanted Mexico, just the Texas National Guard alone can take Mexico, but we don't want it, because in taking it, we will have to take all that comes along with it, and by the way, I know that Mexico got a good chunk of land in El Paso in the early 60's, when the Rio Grande was rerouted, and the U.S. gave Mexico quite a bit of land.

No, I have not seen this ‘over and over’ and, in any case, where is the lie?

Living where I do in what was Mexico before the Gadsden Purchase, I have thought that the US made a great mistake in ‘stealing’ Texas from Mexico and have wondered if they would take it back if we just apologized.

Think how much of a better place the world would be if the Bush family were Mexican citizens instead of American.

We could not get 100,000 people out of New Orleans when we knew where they were and they wanted to be found.

Good luck trying to round up 20,000,000 spread across America that do not want to be found.

Iraq has 25,000,000 (size of Texas) in an area the size of California, and we cannot even control Baghdad. Get real.

Before jumping on others you should try to understand what your ‘researched’ factual evidence really means.

The US Congress voted to annex Texas and sent troops to the Rio Grande, which Mexico considered to be theirs. Not surprisingly, this let to some clashes which the US used a reason to declare war on Mexico. Subsequently, Mexico was defeated (by my great-great-great uncle, Winfield Scott) and a treaty signed.

So, technically you are right. However, creating a situation that forces a predetermined result and they claiming that all was fair is not fair or honest. If you offer someone the choice of ‘your money or your life” and they give you their money and you let them live – you cannot claim that no crime has been committed.

The Gadsden Purchase (whose land I am sitting on) was a bizarre transaction stimulated, ultimately, by the railroads who needed the flat terrain below the Gila River to lay their tracks.

It also was the result of the nation’s guilty conscience for having ‘stole’ Texas.

Yes, and the ignorance is demonstrates on those people's parts.
I guess if some of them are illegals, then they would know all about theft and different forms of thievery.

Yes, it is more of a feel good about being here illegally, the same with it being a human right to be here. They will do or say anything to make themselves feel good about openly breaking our immigration laws.
