How did people celebrate Christmas? Could you celebrate without those things now?

A lot of modern Christmas traditions only appeared in the nineteenth century-in the middle ages Christmas was a period of prolonged festivities and an individual-usually a peasant- was appointed as a "lord of misrule" to oversee the debauchery, gluttony and general mayhem.

all of those things predate christianity, and therefore christmas--there was never a time when christmas didn't have santa, the decorations or the tree

X-mas is an old Pagan midwinter fest that has been high-jacked by xians. The tree decorations is from that time and was also adopted by xians.
