How to remove a 91 Ford Escort dash?

I am trying to remove the dashboard for a 1991 Ford Escort LX to get to the gauges, but cannot remove it because the hazard light switch is in the way. Is there a way to get around this?

there's four large bolts holding the steering column up against the bottom of the dash

remove those bolts, or loosen them enough to lower the steering column enough that the dash can clear the hazard light.
